So this summer I'm trying to purchase a car. I'm 17 and I am a responsible driver. I want a manual but unfortunately I can't as my parents want to be able to drive the car once in a while, and they dont know how. Told them to learn... not budging :p I need a solid reliable car thats quick and fun to drive (min. 4 seats) and all this under $10000

So my choices at the moment are:
2001-2002 Lexus IS300 -current advantage as my cousin is selling it soon, and has low miles+ family discount ;)
    2004 Acura TSX
2008 Scion TC?? Sorta hate it tho
    2004 Acura RSX
    2004 Infinity G35 sedan

So help me out ;) and feel free to add any car you think falls under my guidelines

I live in Canada so winters have snow. Is RWD too risky?

Acura TSX or the IS300 would be your best bet

Your cousins car seems like a good choice, particularly if its low mileage. You'll at least know some history about the vehicle, particularly if your cousin purchased it new.

yeah 10k is rough, but I've been saving a bit. Preferably under 10k...

WRXs aren't my thing, and my dad said he doesn't want a car older than 10 years. Of the ones I listed which ones should I cross off?

It wasn't a new vehicle as it had a rebuilt title. My uncle has a body shop, so the work done was good, and nothing on the car is broken. It was only 1-2 years old when he bought the vehicle at the auction. All it needs is a detail from me ;)

I have seen his paintwork though... small specks in the paint. Hopefully I can get some sandpaper to wet sand them down. Other than that, I like the car, but never driven it, but I have driven a 5 series BMW, and I must say RWD 'feels' faster as its sorta thrusting forward, rather than pulling along- maybe I'm wrong?

Given our winters can suck royally, I'd go for front or all wheel drive. If you are going to put actual snowies on in the winter, I'd take your cousins IS300. The other cars aren't in its league. I did an IS300 for a client last summer and was blown away by how nice it is. If you dont want it, I'll take it!

Yeah, with the money I save by going with the IS300 I'm planing on getting Lexus G-Spyder Rims which would cost around $1200 with tires, as well as invest in some good winters on the stock rims. I'll see how low I can get it when I go to the states in the summer. She only drives the car once/twice a month, so I'd imagine its in stellar condition. $6000 maybe? as its rebuilt + the import costs, taxes etc. is going to ring up to $7000 or a bit more. Planning on an intake and rims+winters when the time comes.

Thanks for the quick input! The lex is a pretty baller car for a teen, and the styling IMO is still fresh.

It doesn't snow (once in a blue moon) does it snow where I live so I would say the is300, but a backup plan would probably be the TSX because of its nice features, such as xenon headlights :)!

My opinion probably isn't worth shit, because I like RWD American cars... but I would try and find an SVT Focus... awesome cars...

its all about the IS man. most people from any automotive culture appreciate the "alive" styling and attractive personality the IS has. but im a little biased. ;)
