The Shinex is an awesome polisher but it's not available in the States. A Festool employee in the U.S. posted in a forum that it will come to the U.S. within six months and that is has been UL approved. My guess on pricing is that it will cost somewhere around $440-$450. This is how I arrived at that guesstimate. In the UK (VAT not included), it's priced at 331 GBP ($508), which puts it between a Rotex125 at 292 GBP ($448) and Rotex 150 at 375 GBP ($575). In the U.S. a RO125 is $395 and a RO150 is $495. It's hard to estimate the price because the Shinex doesn't come in a systainer and the RO's do, so the cost may go up.
If prices will be over $300, those won't sell...again, in UK they might cost more in USD, because everything cost more there, thanks to they VAT and other ENORMOUS taxes...
The UK Shinex price I posted of 331 GBP ($508) is without VAT. With VAT in the UK it costs 388.93 GBP which is $600. Tools from Festool are expensive, on average they are double or more the price of their competitors. A Festool 15V cordless drill in the U.S. costs $450, that's without their additional chucks. For $250 you could buy a very good Makita kit with an 18V drill, impact driver and light. I could see some professional detailers buying it and justifying the expense because it is lightweight and is comfortable to use. Usually they say something like "this is how I make my living and I want to use the best tools available to make my work as easy, enjoyable, and productive as possible." Others will say they could do the same job with a Harbor Freight machine. Paul Dalton has given it an enthusiastic endorsement which might help convince some that the high price is justified.
that polisher does look awsome. but i could never see my self spending 500 some on a buffer. but would like to see it become available here in the u.s
If someone really wants one and doesn't want to wait up to 6 months, than just contact an online UK Festool dealer. Because it would be coming to North America you would be exempt from VAT so the approximate cost would be 331 GBP/$508 for the Shinex and about 40 GBP/$60 for shipping, for a total of around $568.
Watch the market people. For years I've banked on playing currencies at their weakest. The GP is at 1.5 today, I bought my 3M perfect it US spec bumper pad for 38 shipped 3days delivery from the UK. Find me a place here in the US with that price delivered and I'll paypal you 5$. Weight is always a factor in oversea's buys but honestly if you watch the market you can get some really good deals, if you don't like what you bought chances are you can resell it for the same cost here state side. Also, look on UK forums. The detailing aka Valeting scene over sea's is huge as people have their cars for several periods longer then most Americans. You will find some pretty good deals and you can always get a warranties. I just bought one for my used hitachi Sp18Va (1 year) for 7 $.
