OK, so you all know about festool. I want the RAP-80 which is basically a small rotary. (Dave KG posted using it in a recent write-up). So here are some questions. how can I use it in the US? I know over seas the electrical plugs or whatnot is different than here. something with volts? anyone know the best places/prices on ordering one of these? what about warranty if I order it from overseas? havent seen one on the US festool site. now I dont plan on ordering this thing right away, but hopefully sometime this spring. i hope. any info you guys can give me would be awesome. T.I.A. -Roger.
Hey Rog, we only use 110V whereas 220V is used on the other side of the pond for the most part. If you want to use it, you need to get a voltage converter to convert from 110V to 220V.
Converters are not that expensive these days, and they are actually much lighter and more compact as well. Radioshack normally has them, but past that I am not sure other than going online. Edit: online, it seems like there are a whole bunch in the $25 range but those will be larger and heavier than a more expensive albeit more portable unit.
They are cheap, 20-30 on eBay. I have one thati bought for my gps to take drill to Ukraine but he didn't. U have to find out wattage of he tool (volts times max amps). There are plenty of those on eBay.
Polishers aren't available in the U.S. yet. You might try: Dual Action & Rotary Polishers for your car - Buy online from i4detailing.co.uk
I'm not an electrician but anyone who knows this subject better, is there anyway you could modify it from 220v to 110v?
Not expert but some can, I remember reading that I think the Festool DA has the quick change power cord someone just used a US plug on a Euro model and worked fine as the internal circuit could take both. Kind of like transformers can take 110 or 220.
Naw, not really at all. They can be easily found online anywhere just about. A good thing to check is the operating voltages for the RAP-80. From what I've found it says 240V but not sure if it's just 240V or 110-240V. If it's ranged, a voltage converter shouldn't be necessary but you may still have to get the 220/240V to 110V adapter for the plug.
i remember doing a search for a converter before, iirc there are many different ones. some that have multiple adapters fro diff countries all built in kinda like a surge protector, or other ones where you have an adapter end to plug into the foreign end then to the outlet. just take a look around to see what would suit you.
