Hi guys, I think I'll be buying another spot light to replace my brinkmann in a little bit.

I noticed the Fenix TK35 on DD and was wondering who uses one and any feedback about the product. Is it good for finding swirls and other defects? How long is the battery life (I understand it will vary based on battery brand and brightness levels used... but generally speaking)?

I honestly think that is a bit much for swirls. I would use that to find Sasquatch or blind burglars. I have a TK 11 and it blinds me on low power. I would look into a headlamp for finding swirls. The HP11 is a nice piece.

It is a great flashlight, a little more floody than some which IMO is a good thing. As to detailing applications I pretty much agree with what mrgolfrider wrote. I have a Fenix PD30 (from Phil) and another brand of headlamp.

    Dear Friends

I bought the TerraLux 300-lumen flashlight because I thought it's super-bright output would make it a better paint-defect finder. It's so bright that I can't see anything with it when I'm standing close to a vehicle. So I'll have to find another solution. The TerraLux is one nifty flashlight, though.

I'm looking forward to reading LostHighway's link.

Update: I definitely don't want a TK35 for finding swirls. It'd be worse that what I have.

I have one, it's is a little much. I mean you can find swirls on the other side of a hockey stadium. Go with a TK11, I think the Brinkmann is a great light for the price is all you will ever need. I guess you should get it if you do show cars because I found holos on a car I though I perfectly polished and even spent a couple of hours jewelling, so you can with the TK35 but not in the sun. Get it if you want absolute perfection.

I have Fenix tk45 and absolutely love it! It uses 8 AA batteries and can kill them in as little as 2 hours running in turbo mode. Now I would consider tk45 OVER tk35 because it does not need special batteries which can be VERY EXPENSIVE and only sold in special stores. AA can be purchased at costco for a cheap price. Do the math and see whats worth what. As far as light output the are about the same 760 vs 820 is not that much different.

You might want to think about what kind of form factor will work best for you. For detailing I like headlamps and relatively small, but not extremely tiny, hand helds. It depends, in part, on what kind of batteries you prefer. If I was looking for a new light I'd probably opt for something that uses a single 18650 but there are also arguments to be made for a light that uses two AA NiMH batteries like the Sanyo eneloops. In a headlamp maybe something that accepts a single CR123/16340/RCR123A might be an option but I don't like that form factor for hand helds. Horses for courses.
