i recent watch the documentary "restrepo" after it was recommended to me by a few friends, one of whom is serving active duty in the army. i am somewhat of a history/military history buff myself, so naturally i was humbled and touched by the documentary "restrepo". its a an exemplary story of true american hero's, the best and bravest the US has to offer.

recently i've been doing some research on this particular unit, as well as the operations and the areas they were involved in, and came to find out that one of the men from this particular unit featured in 'restrepo' had received the congressional medal of honor in november. he was the first soldier in 40 years to NOT receive the militarys highest honor posthumously for courage, valor, and bravory under fire and almost certain death. ive been engrossing myself into learning as much as i can about these men and the things they did and sacrifices they made, and it has been extremely sobering. i have always been a proud and patriotic american, but i feel even more stronger about that now after learning of these men and what they did.

i guess what im trying to do is make as many people aware of who they were, and what they did, in order to honor their service and sacrifice.

i urge anyone interested to please watch the documentary 'restrepo', whether you watch the youtube videos now or later. the movie really makes it much easier to understand exactly what these brave men were doing, where they were, and what they had to endure and sacrifice

american or not, i think we all can take something from stories such as these.
and please DO NOT turn this thread into some kind of politcal/war debate.

Good call Billy, I watched this a few weeks ago and I was in tears at some points because it reaches out so far emotionally and gives you an unbiased and unshielded look into these men's lives and their brave actions. Talk about a band of brotherhood. They are true heroes.

A buddy of mine on the GTO forum was in that unit, and he recommended that movie to me awhile back. Excellent movie, and really puts things into perspective for you. He wasn't at restrepo, he was honorably discharged beforehand. He was shot in the back by a sniper, rescuing one of his friends in a firefight, and is now paralyzed from the waist down. He's an excellent guy, with a great sense of humor, and would whoop any of our asses if we tried to feel sorry for him. He got injured fighting for what he loved and believed in, and has said time and time again, that if he had to, he would do it again. I know long rant, but this movie really makes you appreciate what these guys do.

    God bless our troops!!

Being a vet from the Viet Nam era, it's good to see this being done and that everyday people get some insight and truth to what really goes on.
