Recently I had the chance to take some pictures with one of my friend's nikon dslr camera and I was amazed how nice the pictures looked compared to a standard digital camera and at how fun photography can be. so, I have been toying with the idea of getting a cheap (but still good quality) dslr camera. I thought that you guys would be the best to ask for recommendations because I know that most everyone here is pretty knowledgeable in cameras (pretty obvious when you look at any of the write ups on this site) thanks guys. Any and all recommendations are greatly appreciated :afro:
Canon XSi or T1i. The T1i is the newer of the two but the XSi would be somewhat cheaper but would miss a few features that the T1i has ( hd video, 15.1mp to name a cpl). Do alot of reading. There's plenty of info on the net about DSLR's. Believe me. Don't be afraid to buy refurb's from BnH or Adorama.
thanks for your advice. HD video doesnt really matter to me at the moment. all i really care about is being able to take some nice pictures when im at events like car shows or when i go on a trip somewhere...and yes, when i detail my car of course, haha.
I know what ya mean. I was like. I'm getting the camera strictly for pictures. Also see if you can find a photography class at your local comm college. It will help you understand features on your camera no matter which one you buy.
I have a Nikon but I suggest you get both brands of cameras in your hands to decide what feels better for you. Do you like the location of controls, etc? However, the real features will not be obvious if you do not know all the customization you get from DSLR's. Can you change the iso, focusing mode, white balance, exposure compensation, etc if you ever want to get beyond Auto or Program mode? If were looking for a Nikon, I would skip the kit lens if possible and get the 18-105mm (kit lens for D90). It gives you more options.
I like Canon. I don't think one is better than the other. They are both capable of excellent photos. Only in the hands of a master will Nikon produce a very slight advantage, but even then it is negligible to most all of us. I have a Rebel XT, and want to upgrade to a XSi or hopefully a 50d. I like the live view LCD of the newer cameras. I can only use the viewfinder on my camera.
I have a Canon Rebel XSi/450D and I think it would be a great DSLR to start with. The kit lens that it comes with is also great for beginners but leaves for something more to be desired.
