please discuss: compared to Permanon, Cquartz, Aquartz etc..... what are your thoughts? there are a lot of coatings coming to market right now, this is another one. what sets this apart from other coatings?
Richy owns 300mL's of this, ask him he should know but I'm honestly going to wait next year for all the fluff to die down and spend my money on something else that is as good
I've ordered it but haven't gone over to get it yet. I actually split an order with a friend. Not sure when I'll try it out to be honest.
yeah, im debating one what i want to use on my truck..Permanon, or maybe just MPL for now. I don't want a product that I have to support with a whole host of other products to make it last longer then 3 months. Ive had good luck with permanon on my wife's car thus far..... I agree, wait for any hype to die down, i wanted to try wolfs body wrap but I really don't want to have to buy the shampoo and the detailer etc to maintain it. Right now I just have Reload on my truck, I did not even clay it, or even strip the old LSP off, I want to see what happens LOL.
I have Element 119 System X on one of my cars and it is holding up like iron. Applied back in June. Beading / water shedding is great and you can top it with whatever you want - no problem. I'm debating if i want to top it with MPL or Blackfire but I like it as is because of less dust attraction than with other traditional LSP. The only thing to worry about is the quick setup time which can be a bit of a pain if you don't buff within the 3 minute window but it's still comparitively easy to use. I have Opti-Guard on another car and Cquartz on some panels so i can somewhat guage how E119 holds up. I feel it's worth it.
how is the applications process? I read do one panel at a time which makes sense and reduces the curing time issues... Does it ruin towels like Cquartz? Any special products to maintain it? Did you use the pre cleaner?
Karl, just get OC 2.0 and call it a day. It is proven and well tested to last permanently. There are many people that have had it on there cars for 2 years and it's just like new. There is no certain way to take care of it either.
yeah, that is on my list as well, Ive been talking to various people about it, price is reasonable as well......
I am with you, all these great products out with great durabilty but you need to wash this way using this product or it will last 1 wash. I have Wolf Chemical BW on my wifes van and washed it with Duragloss 591 and so far still holding up well. kinda makes me wanna stick with something like Collinite 476. I just got some Mark V IP100 and Glisten to try, I'm told to wash with regular LSP safe shampoos. I have not heard C Quartz, Opti Guard or Element 119 falling short with washing with normal shampoos.
at this point I have come full circle and have reverted back to alot of the basics, there is SOOOOO much stuff now and I am sure alot of you agree with me its getting a little absurd.... Opti coat has always been one of those "basics" IMO, ive just never pulled the trigger since im really into trying new things like many of you all are, I think ill probably get the OC 2.0 for my truck since Its a PITA to wash, and keep using permanon on my wife's car.......
If you aren't sure about it, i'd say go with Opti-Coat since it's pretty much 'proven' to hold up and been praised on most all detailing forums for durability. You can always top it with whatever you like though whatever lsp will not last as it will on bare paint. For E119, I applied with the included MF applicator. It goes on really easy and you cannot really overapply it as long as you buff it off in less than 3 minutes. They also include a few MF towels which are nice. Buffed it off with them. I haven't noticed them hardening but I threw them in a bucket of diluted APC or pad cleaner afterwards. The Pre-cleaner which also comes with the order is quite nice and does a good job of prepping the surface of oils and waxes. That's another point that i like about E119 is the value for the $$ spent - you get all the above with the coating and it's less money than the other coatings. If there is a downside of E119 both the Resin and pre cleaner have a very heavy solvent smell so you have to work outdoors or with plenty ventilation blowing. Yeah that part is pretty bad imo. I'm with you that there are waaaaaay waaaaay sooo much stuff out now that it made me step back and get back to basics somewhat. I'm trying to downsize on all the polishes and compounds and sell off my waxes. Just keeping a 'few' around :hmph:
yeah, i went ahead and ordered OC 2.0, hopefully it is enough to do a crew cab Sierra............ Yeah, ive been cleaning house and selling off the polishes and such I don't use, have duplicates of and over bought.... Keep it simple from here on out.
The other thing to bear in mind with all these other coatings is the cost. OC/OG is the far superior product when it comes to cost vs coverage. Now that I apply it using CQ's block and suede mf, it goes a long way and I hardly have to go back over and wipe off any high spots at all. To me, this is the best method I have tried so far.
so you apply it like the Cquartz, nice.... yeah I saw a video of a guy wrap a applicator pad in a laytex glove and wrap that with a soft blue shop towel and it kept the product from soaking into the the applicator. I was thinking of going that rout but using the small spray bottle to apply it to the towel for even coverage. I still have my Cquarts block.... which seems to be the same idea.
I applied OC2 to a customer's brand new Sonata 2.0T yesterday (New car prep and OC2), easy to apply/wipe off, and I only used about half of the OC2 as well (a little less than 10 c.c. was used), so I'm pretty sure the entire syringe will cover your truck since the new Sonata is pretty big.
Haven't tried OC with the Cquartz block yet but I have tried out the method in the video you mentioned. That is Anthony Orosco i believe who seems to have close ties with Optimum and helps to develop / test their products - It does seem to cover more area with same amount of product when used with MF pad. Still testing this out though.
