EDIT - I've noticed that I had a few double and triple posted pictures. I've removed them and will replace them with the appropriate ones that should've been there at a later time. Thanks. Well, my detailing season has officially started. 2012 begins with my brother's car. A 1994 Ford Probe. We didn't only detail the car, but we also did some mechanical work to it. Products used: Washing Wheels Elegance Wheel Cleaner Elegance All Purpose Cleaner Various brushes Washing body Elegance Auto Shampoo Elegance All Purpose Cleaner Sunlight Various wash mitts, sponges Stoner's Invisible Glass Correction Menzerna Intensive Polish (PO91E) on Lake Country white CCS pad Menzerna Micro Polish (PO87MC) on Lake Country black CCS pad Detailer's Pride Glass Polish on Lake Country orange flat pad Various Microfibers Protection BlackFire Wet Diamond all Paint Sealant Dodo Juice Banana Armour Zymol Glasur Poorboy's World Wheel Sealant Total work time: 40+ man hours (including mechanical work) This is my brother's track car, so we began by ripping everything out of the car ("adding lightness makes a car faster" -Keichi Tsuchiya-) We did add one thing that made it a tiny bit heavier, but improved his foot position: A Diamond plate floor board. Next up was doing an oil change, a coolant flush and swapping out the front valve cover and it's respective gasket. Here is what we began with: While it was off, we cleaned out the head and valve train a little bit. We took the time to clean the bolts as well: Out with the old... And in with the new! Installing the new Gasket: Everything back together: (Yes, I know, the engine bay is still dirty, we will be taking care of that another time) We also refreshed the wiper arms. Old brakes: Hard to tell, but the discs were heavily grooved. The new gold-zinc plated discs installed with ceramic pads. And what they look like with the wheels back on. On to the detail! Here are the wheels all dirty outside. The car looks quite dirty and damaged, but in fact, it's just VERY dusty. We started right with a degreasing wash since most of the dirt was pre-rinsed off. Here we just eft it dwell for a good 5 minutes. Re foaming it to hand wash it. She's happy she's getting taken care of! (don't worry, paint correction is coming, so we weren't worried about doing that too badly. ) Cleaning off the wheels And washing the body. Save this picture; it's one of the rare times you will catch me washing a car with a microfiber wash mitt. Claying. As mentioned, the car wasn't that bad and had minimal contamination. This is from the whole roof and trunk. And now, the condition of the paint. We then rolled her in and masked her up! A shameful plug? Here is where I did my test spot. As you can see, it's a little faded and oxidized. Drew a line of masking tape and that's what I rested my machine on. I went with a 2-step for this one and started with the Menz Intensive Polish on LC white CCS Second step was with Menz Micro Polish on LC black CCS. Here's what it looked like after those 2 steps. And the 50/50's And on with the rest of the car! Windows were polished as well to get rid of the water etching. A couple of after shots with no protection in the shop/garage. I hope you don't mind that I "stole" your garage wall paint scheme P1et Then we took it outside to give it another quick rinse with degreaser (sunlight) I applied the 2 winder decals. And we started the protection. I forgot to take pics of teh BF sealant, so we're skipping right to the Banana armour. And another shameful plug Letting the BA cure. And then applying the Glasur... ...and letting it cure. Wiping everything down. And voila! Reflections as clear and wet as water. What you can't see is that I'm also making the duckface and sticking out my but like a facebook chick! After taking the car out and letting it sweat for a while, we gave it a final wipedown. Now for some final shots. And finally, the necessary "artsy" shots. Thanks for taking a look, I hope you enjoyed it. As always, comments are welcome.
Thanks guys! It's always fun to get compliments from your peers (not something I've ever been used to in my life) It really was/is. We've been working on this car for almost a year and it will be hitting the track soon. As for the badges, he might remove them, might not. I don't know yet. I know I've removed them from my car for that reason though You should be seeing some sort of pictures of it soon enough. Maybe in a months time.
