I had a car today that I had some time to test some ideas, the first idea was how much filling capabilities do Danase Wet Glaze and Megs #7 have on a hammered finish. The photos below will give you some idea. They were applied with a red LC pad and PC. I was shocked at the findings. The hood of the car: The products: The Results: Did the entire hood with DWG and took a sun shot: I was always under the impression that DWG does not really fill very well, but these results are pretty impressive compaired to the Granddaddy of glazes Megs 7. They both brighten the paint a lot, almost like a cleaner. DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT USE GLAZES TO CORRECT A FINISH OR TRICK A CLIENT INTO THINKING THEY GOT A GOOD DETAIL!!!! I will see this car again in a few weeks and hope to remember to shoot some shots of the hood then too. I did not top the glaze at all. Discussion welcomed, Cheers, Greg
Nice test, #7 will not last long at all, just a car wash as the product truly does not dry but the oils actually stay "wet" to create the wet look for shows. DWG should have some lasting power as it is acrylic based, dont know how long the filling will stay. I use CG EZ-Glaze, which is very close to the DWG formula. I think one of the differences is that CG has very mild cleaners in it while DWG has no cleaning ability at all and a pure glaze.
I too was shocked at the results. I'm already planning on testing RMG. Since DWG is a glaze you can use with sealants, I *presume* it will last much longer...........??? Cheers, GREG
Technically it should last longer than a oil based glaze that is used with wax's. The filling properties should last longer as it would not be washed away, I do not think I have read a actually review or test of its lasting properties so yours may be the first one.
I've been using DWG for a couple of years now and it is amazing. The new version of EZ Creme was finally changed to match DWG, but I still prefer DWG because it is a true glaze without the cleaners. I get about 3 weeks out of DWG and it is super easy to apply and remove. You can also use it under an lsp, in between or on top with no issues at all. DWG FTW!
Thanks for the test, I always wanted to see glaze comparisons. I prefer to use glazes as a complement for my daily driver between real detailing session because of time constraints.
You know I have both, and have been meaning to compare the two. I've been an Amigo addict for a while now, but acquired some DWG in a trade, and have yet to compare the two. How do you feel they compare to each other?
I'd like to see this comparison as well. I have a 10 yr old black car and the hood is far from perfect. It needs a respray. It's out the budget now. Meg. #7 does a decent job of hidding but I'm hoping to find something better.
I find RMG hides better the Megs#7...and its easier to use. And they may say DWG has no cleaners in it, but it still has a solvent of some sort, because it will lightly clean paint. Itll remove smudges and fingerprints...
