I have some of the drying towels from Target and one Amazing Dryer, and it seems like they aren't as soft as they used to be and aren't doing a good job anymore. Would boiling remedy the problem?

    It wouldn't hurt.

I had some shag rags that weren't absorbing anything anymore (makes sense, as I normally use them for buffing off waxes).

I filled the sink with hot water and a generous amount of dawn dish soap. let them soak for a couple hours, then rinsed them out, and into a bucket with Meg's APC dilution. Those sat overnight. I washed in the morning, and they worked awesome.

    boiling would probably help

there was a thread a short while ago about the same problem. I've been having the same issues too. The next thing I'm going to do before I use the micro restore detergent is soak them in APC (super green stuff for me) before I wash them. Hopefully that will remove all the sealant, wax, and whatever else is stuck in the fibers. The hotter the water, the better it theoretically should be though.

If apc does not work put some dawn in a 5 gal bucket, put the towels in there and agitate them every 10 min, and do that 2x then rinse them out and wash as normal. I had the same issue and APC didnt work that well but soaking and agitating in dawn made them come back to life.

I good preventative maintenance would be to wash them separately as you do your other towels. This keeps the little bit of wax from cross contaminating your drying towels, from your wipedown towels.

Wow, I can't believe that my guessing is what others have done. I was just pissed at the towels one day, and wanted to teach them a lesson, lol. So I attacked them with dawn, then APC.

    HAHAH!

One thing to remember is for those that use wash that has wax in it this will get on the WW and make them repel water, also if you use a QD when drying this may contribute to the cause also. Just keep that in mind.

Dawn is an amazing detergent..you really got think if it will remove oil from little ducks from oil spills it could probably remove the crap from our towels. I also like to add to my rinse cycle a cup of distilled vinegar and I feel it really does help out in the rinse cycle.

if you have a steam washer, just run them through a steam cycle.
