    Hey Gang-

OK, so this product can't be as good as it is made out to be in the Dr. Cc videos, I'm sure if any of us were to inspect a surface treated with this stuff with an LED, it would become apparent quickly.

However, I think it could be useful for customers that are having you prep their car for sale and don't wan't to dump a bunch of money into a respray. I am envisioning prepping the vehicle surface (wash, clay, IPA), applying Dr. Colorchip, then polishing the vehicle and finally applying lsp.

It is fairly economical and application takes much less time than actual touch up paint would.

That said, I would really like to hear from those who have used the product on the following:
*How well does the product blend in?
*How soon after application can you polish the area and did you feel a need to?
*What type of durability can you expect?
*Any other thoughts you think relevant to this product discussion.

    TIA!

btw I searched our forum for Dr. Colorchip and didn't find anything. Hopefully this thread can grow and become an informative tool for our community. I will tag it accordingly.

    Hey Oregon !

I have used DR.C/Chip many times on solids and metallic paint. While nothing will be as good as feather edging the area with a D/A sander, carefully priming and painting and polishing the area, this product does fill in nicely, allows you to literally smear it over the chip to totally fill the hole/s and level them, and then wipe with another of their products included, to remove excess paint, and leave it looking as good as a professionally applied chip repair can be.

Just follow the instructions, keep the time limits they want you to follow, adjust as necessary for weather temps, etc., it will be fine.

Just remember, it is not a body filler, it is just paint, it cant make any chip disappear completely, as nothing really can, except what I described doing above, but it will lessen look of the chipped area/s a lot and the paint will be right on as long as you supply them the correct paint code, year, make, color, of the vehicle.

I repaired the top spoiler edge of my wife's SUV when she tried to back out of the garage without raising the door first, (Yeah, I know..), and this product filled in the damaged fiberglass area of said spoiler edge with paint, and it stayed on there just fine for 3 years, and was doing fine when we sold the vehicle.

I wont use anything else but these guys.

I know that Dupli-Color sells both liquid and spray paints for this, but have no experience with them except to know that if you are going to spray paint, you better have alot of paper/tape masking, and back-tape around the damaged area so you dont leave a line between the new paint and existing paint..

I dont work or have anything to do with this Dr. C/Chip, I just know a great product when I see one, and will always go to them first and recommend them to all my Clients who want to know what to get to touch up their vehicles..

    Thanks Dan!

How does it react to being polished? If properly cured, will a light polishing eat it up? Does it even need to be polished afterwards as their cleaning solution probably removes all excess paint except for what is in the chip depression?

Dr Colorchip works well but nowhere near what they show you on TV. The paint actually takes a nice polish. As long as you clean out the chip with alcohol before you apply the paint, it will stay put. Love the spokesperson too...

    Oregon -

This product comes with enough clearcoat mixed in to shine as good as the existing paint if it is polished. Like all paint, depending on how many layers it took to fill, it will need enough cure time. I always just smelled the repair, and if I can still smell the lacquer thinner, then its not ready to work on.

Have had no issues with it polishing, etc.,..
Blending - depends on how close the color match is. If the surrounding paint is very old and losing its color, well then this product will show very differently, because it is new product around old product.

Have never watched the videos of it, so cant speak to that.

Good luck with your research !

used dr. colorchip on my previous car, easy application and it works well, except color matching is off. The paint they sent was a bit darker than the paint on my car, then again the car was 10 years old and sat outside in the sun it's whole life.

You have to be really up close to tell the difference.
