So, I'm 16 and pretty much broke, but wanted to try out foaming cars, since it seems really beneficial. Since I don't have much money, I went to Lowes and found their cheapest fertilizer sprayer, it was like $6. I tried it out today on my GTI when I was washing it, using Megs Gold class soap. I really liked it, but I don't know exactly how much soap to put in it. Any advice?

Obviously this isn't as good as a purpose-built foam gun, but for what it is I think it did alright.

Sorry for the bad cell phone picture. At this time I don't think I had discovered the "acid loving plant" setting on it, which produced more foam than that, and it had been sitting for a minute or so. When I put the soap in it, I just filled it up to the first notch or so. I just messed around with it until I ran out of soap. Oh, an it has settings like "4tbs" and "2tsp" and other various measurements on it. What exactly should I do with those? I'm just full of questions today...

This is still just as beneficial as proper foaming canisters because you are presoaking the dirt and contaminants with a soap solution which will loosen the bonded particles. Nice find though, I will try and get to Lowes tomorrow to see if they have one!

Does it have a way to control the flow/ratio of chemical to water or is it just a constant?

It's got a little switch on top with various measurements on it. I'll get a picture later...

Before I buy a dedicated foam gun, I want to make sure that I'm actually going to have a good amount of business, today I'm doing my second detail :D

Here's the settings, I have no clue how it mixes it but the setting "acid loving" creates the most foam.

for $6, it is pretty good for you to use then.
Use the acid loving setting and take picture again.
how much water and how much gold class did you mix?

Er...I just dumped some Gold Class in there and hooked it up to the hose. It's obvious now that I probably should've mixed some water in with it...I wondered why I ran out so quickly

About how much water to Megs Gold Class car wash should I put in when I go to foam a car? And should it be filled to a certain level?

i would say experiment with ratios to see what works best for you. start off with a couple of ounces of soap, the rest water. put the lid on, shake it, and foam away.

Exactly. I have experimented with just adding soap and messing with the ratio . . . . but i find it best to add a little soap and add a little bit of water not filling it to the top though . . . .

would say couple ounces of soap and fill the canister maybe 1/2 way or a tad bit more and that tends to work well for me.

It will take a couple times for you to dial in what works best for you.
