Does scent matter?

As some of you know we are coming out with our own high end waxes shortly. We are in the process of getting different variations made and testing our product both ourselves and having other test for us. The waxes have high natural contents in them like Carnauba, and Vegetable/fruit oils. So far we are sure we are not going to add any coloring, it is naturally a tan color. The only thing we are pondering is a scent. I would like to just keep it natural smelling but wonder if I should maybe add a scent, I see so many people talk about scents in a positive manor although it has nothing to do with product performance. I find fruity scents like Cherry overly fake and take away from the whole natural theme. If any scent gets added we will likely go with Coconut. What do you guys think?

to me sent does not matter. I have used and loved products that smelled both good and bad. Its nice when it smells good and you work with it alot. But for me at the end of the day its all about how it performs

hmmm...that's a good question, I personaly don't mind a small amount of a soft sent but to be honest I think it would be better with out sent...at the end of the day I expect the product to deliver.

Just don't make it smell like the Optimum Protection Plus....I like Optimum but man the smell gets anoying quick hahahaha...but I still use it.

    That's just my opinion though...although Coconut wouln't be bad...love Coconut :D

To stop dancing around the question, I would say leave the smell out when you get the feed back from the beta testers then adjust as you see fit...smell is not as important as delivering.

smell does matter. I didn't think I care, but a while back I beta tested a wax (Perfecar ...I think they went under). They wax itself didn't look too bad, but it smelled a lot like permanent marker. The wax itself was 53% by volume natural carnuba looked great, but had poor durability. I think there is a certain point where people don't want to use a product because it smells bad. Noting products like IW , Megs DC1, 476S is okay.., tarmanator. When it is pleasant smelling it is more appealing. I really like the coconut smell of say Meg's M83. The smell of their natural shine/leather wipes is great. The quik interior detailer was not bad either. Optimum Car wax smells pretty good too.

If it smells like fart, I'll have a hard time using it :(. I also don't like the smell if it's something that will get me feeling dizzy, like a permanent marker, paint thinner, etc sort of smell. If it doesn't smell like fart or a dizzifying permanent marker/paint thinner smell, I'm ok :).

smell does matter. It a product has a bad scent to it, detailers will start looking for alternative.

    Smell does matter,absolutely.
1)it distinguishes one product from another(combined with colour)
    2) it gives a pleasant experience which stays in our memory as one.
3)It gives the manufacturer the ability to discontinue a product, add a couple of different ingredients, then change the colour and THE SMELL,and introduce it as a totally new product.:)
We all eventually stay away from a good product with a bad smell because the competition always give us the option of the better smell and the same or better result ,unless the bad smelling product is exceptionally ,unbelievably good.
So smell is very ,very important ,just remember WG sealant ,Natty's red, blue ,white,Souveran liquid wax and etc.

To me smell does not matter either. I love 1Z High Gloss polish and to me it smells like lighter fluid, but I buy it because of performance. I also find it annoying when a product has a smell but it's not 100% decernable because then I sit there racking my brain trying to figure out what it smells like.

Sort of like when I did a review of SC Killer Chrome. I knew so many people want to know what it smells like so I sat there racking my brain to figure it out and all I could come up with was a urinal mint :p. So I could care less what it smells like as long as it performs. Oh and I would be glad to test for you if you need someone ;).

Is smell going to be a dealbreaker? No, it won't be. Of course, the main thing is how the product performs. But a nice smell is a huge plus. If you're going to be working with it a lot, you might as well enjoy the scent.

Why do you think I use AW so much???

    ;)

I find that anything that has a strong added scent tends to get on my nerves after using it for a while. There is a certain red wax that I had tried while it was on sale, and the strong smell of it almost made me not want to use it after the first shot. Softer smells such found in Zymol Titanium are nice, and can add to the experiance.

All in all, if its a weaker coconut smell, I think it would be nice. Definatly not nessecary though, performance before smell. Lord knows there are some god awful smelling products in my arsenal, that work great and I will never go without.

Performance 1st, Price, Ease of use, then maybe, just maybe smell..but it's way down the list.

I LOVE PB's Trim restorer and I LOVE the smell. However for $25 at 32oz, I can get a GALLON of CGs VRP which is pretty much the samething.

I like the PB better because of the scent, but I would never pay that much more for it.

I have decided if the final product smells like crapola I will have to add a scent (Coconut). If it smells like nothing or just smells like a candle or crayons, I will not add anything.
