Do you alway remove LSP?

Perhaps a dumb question, but I was wondering what the recommended thing to do would be if...

Coat of powerlock applied 3 months ago. Still mostly intact, but I want to put another coat on. Normally I would just top it, but is this the best way to do it or not?

My concern is born out of the fact that the original coat of PL has been on for a decent amount of time... if that makes any sense

    Thanks!

IMO I would just top it. The polymers should interact with each other just fine.

if its only been 3-4 months I would just top it.

3 Months,................ I would consider claying first or at least a baggie test to check for bonded contaminants. Personally I would use a paint cleaner to remove to old PL. If the new layer of PL bonds to the old layer that is fine but who is to say that the old layer is bonded to the paint any longer?????

Someone stole Jim's login info to post this. If this was really Jim he would have said sealants suck and to do a paint cleaner and apply Auto Finesse Spirit....:D

At 3 months PL should nearly be diminished (personal experience too). Which, IMO, means you may as well wipe it clean and decontaminate it.

I would check for any bonded contaminants first. If there are none then go ahead and top it. Otherwise clay were needed and/or use a pre-wax cleaner.

If older than 4 months and looking for much longer, I will strip it then apply. It can get tired looking and usually looks a lot better when stripped.

Excellent info, I think I will just play it safe and strip it; won't really be much extra work since I was going to put on another coat anyways. The only thing that sucks is drying a car with no lsp because a leaf blower is not as effective.
