My small group leader from church wanted me to detail his VW Jetta...I need the money but he's done so much for our small group and so much for me personally I just charged him $45, so I could make a little money but not charge him too much. I decided I'd do as much for his car as I could in the five hours that I had to work with it and then just charge that price. I think it turned out well for the condition that it was in--it was trashed. He parks under trees, so there was lots of debris all in the doors and stuff, and this gross tar residue in the door jambs. I went through more mf towels on this car than any other vehicle that I've ever done before. I have this collection of extremely soiled Costco microfibers that I keep thinking I should throw out...until I see a car that is this dirty, and realize that they still have a use. It only had about 117,000 miles on it, but the car was falling apart--it has had a rough life. Anyway, onto processes and some pictures!

    Processes:

    Exterior:

Bird crap and bugs treated with megs APC 4:1
Washed with ONR for soap and DI sheepskin mitt.
Wheels cleaned with Megs Wheel Brightener and various brushes
Wheel wells cleaned with Megs APC 4:1
Clayed with ONR clay lube and Megs clay bar.
Waxed with Megs Gold Class wax--it fills swirls nicely and I didn't feel like putting a super high-quality wax on this thing
Tires dressed with Megs Hot Shine liquid spray, 'cos I'm cheap :p
Rain-X on the windshield; his wipers don't work

    Interior

    Vacuumed
Door jambs cleaned with Megs APC 4:1, they were NASTY
Windows cleaned with Stoner Invisible Glass
All plastics cleaned with Megs APC 4:1
Dashboard dusted and cleaned, again with Megs APC 4:1

This was my first time using ONR, I love it! I had a lot of fun doing this car, now onto the pictures!

Aaaarrrggghhh! Swirls! This car has been washed at many automatic washes...and the squeegees you use to wash your windshield at gas stations :yikes:

    Afters!

After half the hood, the rest was as bad or worse. I only had time to get the hood, roof, trunk, and half of one side done unfortunately, or I would've clayed the whole thing.

I had a before picture of this area, but it didn't show up when I uploaded everything to photobucket. :shead: No, he doesn't have a gas cap.

It's far from perfect, but I was happy with the car, and the owner was thrilled with my work as well.

Man tell him cleanliness is next to godliness:gross: it might give him an incentive to keep it clean.:thumb: good work seeing as how bad it was.

You just saved the owner like a grand or more on resale and saved him a tetanus shot. Good save...that looked like a challenging one.

Nice and I hope he got a gas cap. His mileage must be terrible.

haha thanks everyone! Comments like that keep me going on filthy cars like this :) I told him that the lack of a gas cap would cause him to lose gas, and he said "OH. That's why I've been getting crappy gas mileage!" So he's gonna start looking for a new gas cap soon. And yeah, there's a check engine light...and a brake warning light, made me slightly nervous picking it up and driving it back.

I don't think I'm getting a tip (he's a college kid, not a ton of money), but that's fine with me, he's an awesome guy that's always been there for me, this was the least I could do for him.

Solid ethics for detailing such a filthy car for so little. For 5 hours you've done a great job. I hope the owner appreciates what you've done and shows it by giving it a little more tlc in the future.

From a total bio-hazard to a clean drivable car. Very nice work, nice thing to do for a friend.
