Diluting Opti-Bond= seperation

So I have a small 4oz bottle of optibond/water mix and after 1 day it separates from the water. When I use it on tires, I spray and it beads up on the tire, making it hard to get good coverage and a nice even sheen. This even happens when I put it on trim.

Is there anything wrong, or is it supposed to spread like this?

I will try to get a picture if someone says this is uncommon and not supposed to happen.

That is very weird, I have had my Opti-bond diluted at 1:1 for the past year and apart from a copious amount of shaking on the initial mixing have found no problems with it separating. I haven't heard of anyone with this problem, in fact it spreads on a tire even easier diluted.

It is uncommon and not supposed to happen. ;)

Idk about the separation, sounds ok as long as it just goes back to normal when you shake it. It's beading on your tire because you still have protection on the tire that's beading the Opti-bond, you need to strip the tire with APC if you don't want that to happen.

Ok, I understand the tire beading, but the same happens when I put it on trim. Its like the beads are not the product but just water. Im going to see what happens in a bit, I'll use APC 4:1.

    Cya in a bit ;)

Ok, after cleaning trim with APC and tires with APC the application is much smoother, still on trim, not the easiest to spread and once you get it on the area of the trim going over that section again makes it bead. Therefore, I'm keeping it only for Tires, but its such a pain to APC tires weekly... And as for trim, I have PB Trim Restore waiting to be used ;)

Also, keeping track of how much OB I am using and per car I use about 1oz for tires and some trim. Is that normal or too high?

Also the seperation could have been from the high humidity from my garage. But I'll keep track if it does it again.

For those paying attention to this thread, after storing indoors, it separated after 10hours inside my cabinet (indoors). [IMG]

Should I contact AG to send another bottle?

BTW is it me, or does this stuff feel really oily on tires and trim?

What dilution ratio are you using? 8:1? It looks like its way over diluted.

Opti-bond shouldn't really separate as it's water based and a thick gel so the viscosity keeps everything together. Maybe you just got a bad batch. Are you you have a bottle of Opti-bond and not Optimum tire dressing instead?

Good question, cause it just doesn't sound right.

Its 1:1 I fill up to the half point and then the rest with plain water. The rest of the Opti-Bond is still mixed with the water, so only a part of it separates if that makes any sense. And yes, it is 100% Opti-Bond.
