These are some great articles, you really know your stuff..i know they are helpful to me as well as everyone else...props to you for your knowledge..

Now if I may i would like to discuss a couple of your points.

In your article it says use a wheel cleaner with as low of pH as possible, which of course means the more acidic the better. This is very counterintuitive.

In your discussion of the amphoteric properties of water, it can either become OH- by losing a proton, or becoming H30+ by accepting a proton, hence the basic and acidic properties of water. But by diluting an acid, I have to disagree that it doesnt weaken the strength. Water dissociates into OH- and H+..in approximately the same quantity, therefore being neutral. So lets say 2 oz of acid has X amount of protons, so therefore 2X amount of acid wheel cleaner has 2X the amount of protons. The dissociation of water contributes more protons, yes, but it is also directly counteracted by the number of OH- molecules...so the 2X amount of acid is still stronger because it still has 2X more protons that are not being accounted for by the OH molecules. Please let me know if you see flaw in this logic.

you still should put something on the leather. it still fades and goes hard if left unprotected

Like the article recommends "Use Leather Master's Leather Protection" and then 303 Space Protectant for UV protection

I think the mild cleaner and a protectant does not require a expensive product to maintain leather.

As TOGWT has said, read a variety of source (specially those that use products and not manufactures) and make your own decision. There is no one single source of all information.

That's what make them so believable, "We've always done it like this, so did my Grandfather, so it must be right" :giggle:

Quite a few cars come with untreated full aniline leather. Id use conditioners on these.

Approx 2-4% of automobile upholstery is Aniline pigmented leather

No, I mean full aniline pigmented leather. Pure natural leather. Im not talking about the high quality Nappa found in BMW's or MErcedes. Im talking about the uncolored fully natural leather with all the 'marks' left on it. And since this leather is sold, Id think youd should make a note of this in your list...

It was never my intent to list all ' evry situation, I wanted to cover MOST areas

    Aniline top-grain premium leather

Premium leather is the top 0.25 –inch of the selected leather hide is used in Aniline grade upholstery leather. Aniline is a dye not a type of leather per se; it’s a top grain premium leather hide that retains its colour from transparent dyes rather than from pigment, and as a consequence looks more natural, the dye used permeates the entire hide and results in a rich colour.

The leather is aniline dyed in a vat process and has a water-based pigmentation on the surface otherwise it would be totally impossible to keep clean. The water-based pigmentation allows it to transpire (breathe), staying cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Aniline leather is absorbent and mostly used in prestige European automobiles; Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, Ferrari, Jaguar, Lotus, Lexus and Rolls Royce, US Cadillac and high-end German automobiles such as Mercedes-Benz, Daimler AG and BMW. This is the market sector both Leatherequi and Connolly were originally formulated.

I notice you mention US CAdillac. Do Cadillac's in Europe not have this as an option? That would be a poor choice on Cadillac's part, imo...

Thanks much for all the details! Never knew that the Simple Green we pick up at the local shop can destroy my wheels!

Definitely moving on to other solutions. Guess I'll stick with CG Citrus, wheel gel, or P21S wheel stuff. Any excuse to the Mrs. I can use to buy more stuff :p
