So I will be flying back to HK in June after my congregation ceremony and I will be hauling back with me some detailing goods so that I will have some stock there for my dad to use (or if I am to stay there, I would have moved part of my collection already) I want some suggestions/critics on my list of to bring (which hopefully will not go ZOMG overweight in my luggage and are available in Canada cuz I only have a month or so left) so real consideration are more for durability more than anything because the nature of Hong Kong is epic city where you can barely have time to wash your vehicle/after I leave no one will care much about it and bring it to get waxed in a car park using some ?!!?!?! wax. Also I will be working under the blazing sun with a water hose that barely has any pressure (some considerations) OR in a covered parking with nothing but a bucket of water. Minimizing is beauty as well due to the fact that I am hauling ass with it. 4 Vehicles that I will be working on for sure 2000 Mitsubishi Pajero with fiberglassed patches from rusting and super scratches on the black paint (so I may just sealant it) BMW 323i hard top cabrio in Grey Mazda 8 City Blue with lots of scuffs GTI Mk7 Black which is new and possibly has some sort of VW paint treatment on it As follows: ONR 1 Gallon (or 32oz) Griots MF Wash Mitt or Gtechniq Merino Mitt Sonax FE 200ml (or maybe I'll order P21s Gel wheel cleaner) Sonus Ultra FX Clay 1z Blitz 32oz or P21s TAW Poorboy Wheel Sealant (plus maybe Gtechniq C5 which will prob be awesome for HK) 303 Aerospace Protectant 32oz 303 Hi Tech Fabric 32oz Gtechniq P1 100ml + tri foam hand polish kit (not hauling my PC back as HK is 220v) 1z Polishwax + 1z Glanz or Collinite 845 Maybe some DoDo Juice wax for the special occasion or SV Shield or some Canadian love Victoria Wax 1/2 dozen blue CG Monster Towels + 1/2 dozen yellow a few yellow applicator pads Some I'd love to but prob wont work: Brushes, i'll work something out locally and improvise Spray bottles, gonna be a headache so i'll just buy some new ones in HK I'd bring a gamma seal bucket with gritguard but dont think that'll work in my suitcase very well. BUT WAIT I CAN MAYBE BUY A COLLAPSIBLE.... Some unrealistic I'd love to: Swissvax Master kit but I dont have the cash
Hi... r u flying back for goods? In case you need meguiars stuff, buy it there. Meguiars Hong Kong prices are very competitive, rather than hauling a lot of stuff it's easier to get it there. And the people are very helpful as well, bought my D/A during chinese new year and they still want to deliver... Other than that, ONR 1 gallon, lots of quick detailing stuff and plush microfibers... easy-apply LSP like optiseal.....some glazes/fillers maybe since you're limited on full detailing workspace. Gillmore foamgun would do a lot of help in spreading the soap. That's all i can think off....
all down to where the full time job wind blows =p thanks for meguires hk heads up, guess not all is lost LOL and yeah opti-seal and glazes, good suggestions sadly wont be able to foam cannon at the place i live, the hose is literally a hose thats forced onto the outlet and the other side has no screwable bit. The docks at the club have but cant drive the car down there lol and foam cannoning the jet ski would prob be fairly useless, not to mention ill get stared at for firing foam into the sea lol
Sounds like a decent list you got so far. IMO since most of the cars you've listed are dark paints and you might be working in the sun a lot I'd bring some PB's products, especially Black Hole. Einszett Glanz will prob be the best sealant/wax you could bring. As for a special occasion wax Vic Concours would be a good one. ONR washes should be sufficient but I would bring a collapsible bucket and one other soap as well just in case the cars are real dirty.
Aldric, when I went there a few months ago, I just brought all my essentials in 4-6 oz sample bottles. I had maybe 15-20 bottles which were all seperated into 3 sealed ziplock bags. All my mitts and brushes were packed in another big ziplock, then comes the towels, pads, backing plates, polisher, extention cords, transformer..... :shakehead: Good luck with the details there! PS: I still have the collapsible bucket from my last detailing trip to HK if you want to borrow it.
My family is actually there so I'm leaving some stuff with them to use thus I'm opting for the bigger sizes =p but yeah not gonna bring the pc, if I have to polish I'll buy a Meguires DA and somehow get my hands on some Gtechniq P1 + P2 thru some distribution channels however dont think i'll be able to survive the heat polishing in mid summer heat lol I may also end up detailing some family friends cars as well, gonna see. and thanks for the offer for the bucket, I may just buy the Griots one from Troy and leave it in HK or i'll make do with some home made DIY grit guard and a bucket
So if you do move to HK, are you going to be parting out your collection? Sorry I don't have any useful input into your question but I'd be happy to take some products that just sit around off your hands lol.
I will probably ship majority of it back along with all my computer gear however some things like the PC i will probably part with cuz its 110V, but who knows =p returning to HK for good is a MAJOR decision which will require me to do a lot of stuff like cancel my Telus contract, Rogers contract, Sell my vehicles, Close bank accounts, Cancel credit cards, etc etc. sooooooooooo will gotta think things thoroughly, not to mention the depreciation on my GLK will be like zomgwtf anddd I have got in touch with Meguiars HK and apparently I can get my hands on the Professional Line woot, guess I can take off a few to brings like APC lolololol
Good luck with this major decision Aldric! I was just asked last weekend if I would consider moving to HK to run a detail shop there, and with the crappy weather that we've been having in Vancouver, anything might happen! If you can get your hands on some Gtechniq C1 there in HK, I expect you to ship me a few bottles!
Well the GLK will sell quick just like Phil's 911, and probably on the higher side of the black book value since it belonged to you..... your list looks good just remember your coming back and can bring anything you forgot on your next trip. You can also take a Box, get one that is the maximum allowable size and fill your stuff in there, then have a second suit case for clothing etc.
