Gang - just what the subject line says. I've now tried a few different detail sprays...

This is one of those product genres where, so far, I can't tell the difference between any of them. Is it my imagination, or have I just missed the "good stuff?"

Yeah, you have missed the good stuff. Try some FK 425 and you will see the huge difference.

Clearkote QuickShine is another great one that you need to try.

I like Meguiars M135, cleans well and leaves a nice finish. I like FK 425 better for a better over all finish, once I run out of M135 I will order a gallon or more of FK 425 it lived up to its "hype" Still need to try OID though.

    The difference

The well known OTC brand QD's have no or minimal protection, contain silicone oils, waxes , ethlyene glycol (coolant) , alcohol and or solvents for quick flash off during application and cannot be diluted

    The new generations

Lots of protection, dilutable, able to be applied by orbital or rotary, can polish and clean glass, interior leather, vinyl, plastic, rubber, woodgrain, plastic chrome plus mag wheels and exterior trim
Provide three to seven months protection

No silicone oils, contains body shop safe sealant, no wax, superb slickness

In this section - Aussie Gold Showroom sealer glaze, Driven to Perfection Quick spray, Prima Slick, FK 1 425

Optimum Instant Detailer & Gloss Enhancer is worth a try as well. It's fairly cost effective.

I like Meg's Final Touch, FK 425, and the new Meg's ultimate QD (leaves a nice slick finish). I have 1 or 2 others in my cabinet as well, just don't remember which ones ;)

Thanks guys, this helps a lot. What the heck is FK, anyway?

Alright, I guess I should now correct myself. I bought a bottle of Meg's 135 yesterday and just went outside to try it. OK...I'm impressed now. The paint feels like a nice nonstick pan, and the car looks really really wet. I'm sure some of that is down to the Rubbish Boy's OE (which is still going strong), but yeah...to say this stuff is "a little better" than regular red bottle Meg's QD is a gross understatement.

Too bad I've got so much of the red bottle stuff. Every time I buy a claybar kit, they give me a bottle of that stuff. I've taken to cleaning up my countertops with it.

That is a fairly broad comment on OTC products. Can you be specific on the brands?

Showtime is a nice cleaner detail that leaves some gloss and spreads well. It is much less expensive than say Optimium detailer. I know some like ONR since it is really cost effective.

I have Optimum ID but for the same cost, etc. I just go with a spray wax. The spray wax does not have the cleaning properties.

I love Victoria Wax QD... very clean look.
but also go through alot of OPT Instant Detailer .. can be used inside or out.. very versitile.

Using Last Touch for polishing jobs. I still have a bottle of UQD and a bottle of Final Inspection left over to go into my trunk for those bird bombs :)

Funny thing - I tried using ONR as a quick detailer and though it was lacking. Didn't feel very slippery to me. Maybe I mixed it up wrong.

The Mother's FX spray wax is actually a pretty good "quick fix" for when I need to shine something up in a small area. Like a race car, or a place on the S2000 where I hit a pylon during an autocross run. I also really like it a lot for door jambs and the inside of trunk lids and hoods. I'm a geek, but not quite enough of a geek to use nice wax on something that's just going to bake in the ambient heat of a hot engine.

If any of you have used the Adam's stuff, here's a question. Does it smell like cherries? Reason I ask is the Majestic stuff I was buying locally is pink, and smells like cherries. I was kind of wondering if it was the same thing.

FK425 is also the first and only great qd that I've tried. The other "good" ones i've tried (OTC) are Meg's quik detailer, which I use for claybarring, and Mother's Showtime, which I can't stand the smell of. I can't speak for it's quality, because after 5 or 6 spritzes, I had to put the bottle away.

That was my point. ONR is a good cleaner but a spray wax like Mothers FX (I have some) is the better deal. Optimum detailer is in between for the same price. Mothers leaves a slicker surface and gloss over the Optimum detailer.

I like it, it definitely adds to the gloss and slickness of the paint. I don't think it offers anything as far as additional protection though. I use it a lot when I am drying my car off after a wash to add some lubrication
