I'm trying to figure out which are the most common pads out there. Let's go with this colors and the cut levels the represent.

Myself I only use 3 pads

    A cutting
    A polishing
A final polish or finishing pad

What do you guys use or what would you guys choose from the below, vote as many times as you need.

I just don't think we need or have to use 6 different types of pads.

    What do you think:

    Orange "Cutting"
    Yellow "Medium cut"
    Green "polish"
    Blue "soft polish"
    Black "finishing"
    White "Ultimate finish / Sealant"

I agree. three pads are all you need unless you apply wax with your pc, then four. I use LC CCS so orange for cutting, green / white for polishing and black for jeweling.

Wait, people use a pad for wax/sealants? I apply and take it off by hand.
If I were to use my PC for wax. Do i still apply by hand, then use the PC to polish it off?

yes people do apply liquid wax/sealants by PC with a soft pad like black or red.

then they remove with a mf towel

From LC, I like the white, gray, blue, and red. Megs WDFP7 for cutting.

i USUALLY only use Orange, then straight to black (or 3M UF pad), since most of my details are SIP then 85RD. Sometimes ill use a white pad for a 1 step job. i barely ever use green, blue, or yellow.

however i don't have any flat pads, mine are all CCS

    Depends which machine I'm using.

For the PC, I've got orange, yellow, black, and white. That's the 4-piece kit of 4" pads you sell, so that's what I've got. Haven't used them yet, but will this weekend.

With the rotary, I'm mostly using the Meguiar's Solo System pads. I like them a lot, the size is "just right" and the backing plate is great too.

Otherwise I've got some miscellaneous Edge pads, like a yellow foam one that has quite a lot of cut to it. I don't like the size of the Edge pads I've got (8"), but they were what the local place had in stock when I needed some quickly, so I bought them anyway.

I used to own and use the 7" Propel pads when I first started detailing and got rid of them earlier this year. Now I only use the 3M UK pads for compounding/polishing/finishing. I also use the PFW and Edge wool pads.

The only flat foam pads I have are the 4" Edge pads and even those I rarely use. However, I am looking to get some 4" flat foam pads for wax/sealant application. The thing is that I don't know how many I should get with all the LSP's I have, LoL.

wondering if the colors were a bit different provided they had the type of pad on the back would you buy them?

or would you prefer to have the same lc pad colors?

Like totally different pad colors Phil or like where part of the pad is a different color and the other part is the traditional color? I'm not sure if I understood your question correctly.

if they are not the traditional colors.

I would buy them. I have a hard time keeping up with which color is which type anyway, since I've got a hodgepodge of different pads from different manufacturers.

The local place by me, Majestic Solutions, seems to sell their own branded version of Edge 2000 foam pads. One of the things I really like is that the back side of them has a color guide printed on it. Not just for the pad you're holding in your hand, either - for the entire range. I thought that was a pretty clever idea.

I thought the Yellow cutting pad was more aggressive than the orange pad. (LC pads, flat bottom)

I use "rarely" the yellow pad, but more-so the orange, blue and white for LC
