i used body wrap today for the first time and i got some hazing i believe either form moisture or left over polish (i did an ipa wipe down but i dont think it was effective) anyway at the point you get hazing what is the proper way to handle this...it buffed out after i let the sealant dry 10-20 minutes but i assume this means the bond is not as strong as it could be so once you see hazing should you start over or what? also i have some polished aluminuim rims on my motorcycle ....they where polished by hand and have no clearcoat and require a light polish every week or so....can i use rim guard on this raw finish?
Pretty interesting question. I used the body wrap and had no issues with hazing. I think maybe you put it on too thick? If you put it on real thin, you shouldn't be getting hazing on a clean surface.
Doesn't Jesse say that the haze is actually the stuff in the paint that the nano sealant displaces. That you can judge how clean the paint was before application based on much haze you get. It has always been easy to buff off for me.
Honestly, I have a few test panels. I tried it on a 2011 Honda Accord front fender, factory black. I cleaned the fender the same. put a tape line down the middle. Put the body wrap real thin (like you should) on one side, and thicker on the other. The thicker side got hazing, the side with the thin coat got no hazing. This is the same, equally clean, panel.
I think Jesse has mentioned in his video that hazing is formed if the panel has any polishing oils or sealant. Just polish out the current coat and do multiple IPA wipe downs and try applying again.
So the hazing can come from a couple of things: Waxes or oils in the paint being brought up to the surface, it can also happen if the temperature is too low when applying. The "optimum" temperature should be around 15 Celsius or above, but I've also applied it in -10 with no adverse affects. If it's hazing after you've removed it, or "ghosting" this means you've either over-applied it or there was a lot of moisture in the air when you applied it and it's gassing out slowly. What happens is if you apply it in damp/really humid conditions the water gets trapped under the sealant and keeps the solvents from drying properly. To remove it you can try an IPA wipe or give it a wash with APC then reapply once it's had time to dry out. Hope that helps! - Jesse
The best application I had with the body wrap it almost disappeared into the paint, there was very little to wipe off. It looked shiny even as it was drying on the paint. Since then I've always put too much on and it hasn't turned out as good.
Sorry to thread jack here. To possibly help with the application being too think, have you had any success Jesse with spritzing the BW onto the applicator? I was thinking about that today when using it for the first time. Great product. I might have to get a small finger sprayer and try it that way.
Cheers bud! Yeah Phil uses a spray bottle and has good results and I've tried it too, also with very good results!
