My bike has been off the road for a year. Tonight I decided to siphon the gas out of it and replace it with new gas and stabilizer for the winter and who knows how much longer. It was great to get it out and give a twist of the wrist!!:thumb: After returning I got looking at it and just couldn't put it away when it wasn't pristine. One thing led to another and after an hour I had done all the chrome and paint. Looks better now..no befores..I hadn't intended on doing it in the 1st place. The bike's a 2000 Suzuki Intruder 1400 cc with a bunch of mods done to her..mostly to go faster.
Look great but now we expect you to finish it up richy. Some leather conditioner on the seats and saddle bags. Tires need help and I think I see a dirty spoke.
cooter..thanks and yes it is a pain (literally for my back too) with the chrome. the seat is a corbin. thanks jon..i used dg 501 for the most part and on one part that was scratched a little i used blue job as well although it didn't really help gary..the bags got 303 but they have been weathered (just like their owner, LOL). you never do the seat b/c you don't want it to be slippery..dangerous thing that. and the spokes...it's a love/hate thing with those bloody spokes!! but it was 2am and i had had enough.
Hey richy, That looks way cool,Man. You can tell that you put your back into it. Almost looks like new...:applause:
Looks good Richy. Right on about not doing the seat or for that matter have to be pretty careful about tires too as you know. Winter time is when I strip mine down and work on all the parts. Did mine the winter before last and its time again. Curious about your gas tank. Was it full before you siphoned it? I'm always very careful about keeping my tank full during the winter or off time so as to prvent any rust from forming on the inside of the tank. I've seen some pretty nasty insides of tanks where rust has formed. It can be fixed but its a pain. Bike look great. Nothing like a clean bike shiny bike but lots of work getting into the little nooks and crannies. Cheers, G
Looks great there Richy! I haven't rode my bike since July of last year and I think it's going to come out of its hiatus fairly soon. I'm thinking I'll be siphoning out the gas, replacing the spark plugs, lubing the chain, and checking the tires if they're still ok to run on. Since I'm in California, the riding season never ends, hehe.
California, the riding season never ends, hehe. You're a real funny guy...hehe...Go ahead rub it in...hehe...I'll get you for that...hehe...
Looks good richy :thumb: I know what you mean about not being able to resist...there's just something about being in the garage working on something
Yes, it was full before. I had started it up and ran it twice in the last year. My clutch needed bleeding and had air bubbles in it, so I had to correct that before I could take her for a run. FINALLY got time to do that 2 weeks ago...boy oh boy does it still run strong. It felt great the other night!! I'm lucky for a Canadian..I'm in the Banana belt of Canada for the weather. I tried to pull my plugs last night b/c I had some Amsoil fogging oil I wanted to spray in the cylinders, but my socket was too wide for the opening. I do recommend siphoning the gas and replacing it with some fresh mixed with stabilizer...no headaches that way. You should strongly consider running AMSOIL synthetic oil...there is no better oil in the world..I kid you not!! Thanks Joe...I felt bad for it..it has just sat there under its cover for so long.:sorry: Buddy I KNOW you'd know EXACTLY what I meant!!!! As would most members here, LOL.:buffing:
I think I'll give that stuff a shot Richy. I've been running Mobil 1 Synthetic since I purchased the bike.
I know its a matter of personal preference and the subject of oil preference is always a hot topic on the bike boards but having said that I don't think you can go wrong with either Amsoil or Mobil 1 Synthetic. Those are the only 2 oils I'll use in my bike(s). Richy, Denzil, have either of you tried Sea Foam as a stabilizer/carb cleaner. Its been around forever (40+ years I believe) and is a tried a true product that originated for boats. Richy, you should be able to get it at Napa. You can get it anywhere almost in the US which is where I usually stock up. G
