After searching this forum, I decided to get some Collinite 845. What are some of the differences between the 845, 476s and 915? Some have said that 845 is best on metallics and 476s on solids...I have not heard about 915.
From Collinite's website I love using 845. When you apply it thin enough, you can almost have a flashing effect where it goes on and almost hazes off itself and requires very minimal wiping to remove the residue. I've used 915 on all colors and it looks very good and is very durable. However, I usually reach for 845 to spruce up the wax on my vehicles as it takes very little time to apply/remove. And 476 I use a lot of for the sake of durability, and I love how it beads water.
If 845 has the least amount of durability of the 3, then im scared to strip the other two lol 845 is great. I applied it probably back in october sometime and just stripped it off today. It had amazing durability but I want to play around with some paste carnauba waxes I got recently.
We put two coats of 476 on a clients motorhome that sat outside through one of the worst winters we've had. 6 months later the water would "fall" off the vertical surfaces. Cool.
I have seen little difference between the apperance of these waxes, 915 will last longer, 845 with a DA is easier to apply. If you use 915 mist your pad with a very small amount of QD and apply as thin as possible, actually you can apply 845 the same way just shake the hell out of the bottle first. WARNING the cap on 845 will come off! Replace said cap with a cap from a Mothers bottle, Menzerna bottle, or so forth, I think even a few pump type lotion bottle tops may work. Do NOT allow collinite waxes to sit for too long otherwise you'll be scrubbing it off with IPA.
Still haven't used 476, but have 915 and 845. 915 is definitely harder to use, and has a problem with "hologramming", in a sense some high spots cure very fast and become cemented onto the paint in the pattern you applied it. Looks amazing, great durability, but a real PITA if you don't remove it quickly and correctly. Also noticed some minor sweating occasionally. I switched over to 845 for my wax. Slap an old Menzerna cap on there and use it with a D/A and you got one great wax that looks almost as good and almost as durable as 915 for much less hassle.
I use 476 on my Dolphin Grey S4. Looks good, and beads like no other. I put on 2 coats (ok, maybe 3) and its amazing. Rain blows right off car.
i have used both 476 and 845. 845 is much easier to work with, kinda like working with a sealant. Easy off easy on. 476 is a bit harder to apply and remove but it lasts quite a bit longer from what i have seen.
Honestly, you need a damp MF to spread 476 the easiest. When I add a new coat, I will mist the paint with a QD and apply the 476 over it in a spit-shining fashion. It spreads easy, goes on thin, and wipes off easy.
Thx for all the info, cant wait to give it a try. I have all my stuff, now I just need a day off. lol
Just tried out 915 on our beater car's hood. Applied thinly, then left it to dry for about ten minutes - effortless to remove, just as easy as 845.
As long as you remove the Collinite paste waxes quickly (5-10 minutes after application), they're pretty easy to work with and work on 1 to 2 panels at the time, spreading it really thinly. I've had really good results with Collinite, especially 476s' clear finish on light paintwork. Kind regards, Ebbe
I came across a thread where 845 and 476 were being used as a dressing on exterior plastic. I had to give it a try with 845...it works. Has anyone tried this before?
