Hey guys, How should I go about maintaing a clear bra. Should I polish it? Should I wax it. Should I avoid it like the pelage? Thanks!
i work on alot of cars that have clear bras at the toyota dealership and i would reccomend just waxing it. If you polish it I've been told that it can burn thorugh very easily, if you're going by hand i wouldnt see any problem, but I personally wouldnt bother polishing it at all. I may be wrong though.
I've polished clear bras before, treat it as you would paint..but lower the RPM's and increase the speed of your passes a bit...oh and no need to use a heavy compound. Actually if I remember correctly I've posted some videos of how I go about polishing clear bra..take a look at the video section, there should be a video there...I'll double check. Found it, here it is http://www.detailingbliss.com/forum/f92/polishing-3m-protection-tips-edges-3863.html
I've polished a (hazed, scratched) clear bra before (with a rotary, no less). Removed the scratches but not the haze. I would make sure the paint under it is perfect before application, then maintain with a "lite" product like Opti-Seal, Clear Seal, etc.
I have used M105 on a hazed clear bra and followed it up finishing polish and it came out great. Just be careful when polishing it though.
Iv'e got a car coming up that has clear film on the entire hood, front bumper, and fenders. Normally i'll just go at it with with a finishing polish and a polishing pad but i'd be interested to hear how aggressive others have gone.
Good to know! I'll probably step it up to SIP next time. Quicker arm speed and less pressure is probably the key here.
The chemicals within some plastic cleaners can actually be harmful to the film if left on for an extended period of time. Certain propellants within aerosol canisters are responsible for excessively drying out the pores of the clear bra, which then leaves them open to the elements and yellowing. Plexus tends to yellow, just take a look at the white nozzle after some time; it actually turns yellow. It also contains butane, which dries out the micro-pores of the urethane film Do not use products that contain butane, propane, dyes, aerosols that use isobutane ( methylpropane) as a propellant, or petroleum distillates solvents
I have used the Zaino ZPC polish on clear bras before with good results. I used it because it is water-based and was concerned if the lube/oils in the Menz and Megs polishes would harm the plastic film. It definately will clean the film and had no problem removing the swirls. Used a green heavy-polish pad. You just need to be careful along the edges of the film
You can polish the 3M clear bras safely, just be careful to keep the heat down. I have used both Menz PF2500 and Menz SF4000 with a green pad, no damage to the bra. Remember to keep the pressure light.
