So lately I've been wondering how to go about cleaning really really dirty exhaust tips...mostly because as I'm beginning to offer more comprehensive detail packages (instead of simple was and vac stuff, which is primarily what I did last year). Stainless steel, chrome, etc...what is the best way of getting the majority of the carbon build-up off before you go to polish them? I've heard use wheel cleaner...but currently all I have is P21s and Wheel Brightener...would either of those work well? And as a side note...what would be the best sort of all-around metal polish for detailing purposes? Preferably something not incredibly expensive or I'm gonna go broke haha. All I have in the way of metal polishes now is Mother's mag and aluminum polish and Eagle One never-dull. Thanks, Clark
steel wool or the P21S polishing soap i think would be the way to go. the P21S polishing soap btw is VERY VERY awesome and also easy to use. Really handy and in a self enclosed package with the sponge n soap. oh and cleaning wise... I seriously dont know, i usually just get some APC on and scurb.
I use the eagle one wadding polish and steel wool on really bad exhaust. You can use APC and a brush or old mf to get a lot of the grime off.
I use the P21s Polishing Soap and P21s Final Restorer it is a great combo. The sponge can even do the inside of the exhaust tip, hose off the Polishing Soap and dry, apply the Final Restorer Metal Polish and buff! If there is any tar on the pipes, then I spray Tarminator on the pipes before the P21s Polishing Soap step.
Cleaning wise; I've seen good results with CG Grime Reaper on aluminum tips (e90 3series). Dilatable too.
P21S polishing soap does amazing things. I usually seal with Blackfire All-Metal Sealant after. It seems to work well on preventing carbon build-up on turbocharged cars. So far did a few GTIs and a few Subarus with it, their tips have stayed cleaner than usual.
Use your P21S Polishing Soap, and then follow up with a metal polish. I like Optimum Metal Polish with #0000 Steel Wool. You could also use the P21S wheel cleaner and scrub with the #0000 steel wool, and then follow with the metal polish.
