Okay, I just wanted to catch you guys' attention. My mom owns a car that hasn't been well taken care of since its purchase about 2 1/2 yrs back. Today, after washing it, I tried claying the car (plan was to just clay then seal since I don't have a polisher). I stroked my hand on the paint and could feel lots of contaminants left on the paint. So, I thought it was going to be mighty fun just claying the car and it was. after claying just the trunk, I put my hand across it again. While it did get better than other parts of the car, I still felt a LOT of fine contaminants. No matter how many times I repeated, I couldn't get it off... I use the maguires clay. Does this mean I need a finer clay? I never knew what those were for.. but I guess I need them?
Sounds like you may need to use a more aggressive clay or better yet a one of the Decontamination solutions .The aggressive clay will mar the paint requiring the car to be polished.
Sound really really bad... A decon system is your best bet... more aggressive clay will leave marring... On top of that clay only shear off the contaminants where the decon system actually removes the contaminants completely.
Thanks guys, can you guys recommend a specific decon system? preferably one that's the easiest to use since it's my first time hearing about this decon system?
You can try Iron Cut from Aquartz. After getting as much as you can off by claying, spray the Iron Cut on the paint and it will dissolve the metal filings that are left. Also, the Megs bar is a very light abrasive. Our Fine Clay will remove more without marring the paint. Feel free to come by the shop and try a couple different bars to see what works for you.
Claying will only get rid of so much and type of contaminant. You should go over the car with a really good chemical cleaner and see how that does it. Just try one panel and see if you see a difference. :shrug:
Where can Iron Cut from Aquartz be purchased from? Looking for a decomp for the same problem, white vehicles can see orange spots after claying. thanks:applause2:

Even my GB order with him was done in 1 hour. Thx to finding this guy from you guys on DBfrom the GB, he would be good addition to vendor here imo. Very fast and thorough cs from this guy. My new preferred vender For Iron X, it smell very different, its very good safe cleaner for metal contamination on paint, I bought many Litre from the GB and very happy with it because other decon chem were dangerous, but even not as effective. But this for metallic contam that clay would leave in paint, you still should be claying above surface contam off. - before Iron X too. For claying have you try different lube? Or different amount of pressure? Sometime stubborn contaminate need to be hit from different directions to knock off. Some lube makes clay too slippery too. So change to something a maybe a little lighter? So for example clay can "grip" more.
Thank you for the help guys, I will start on this car around boxing day. I have the Iron X and new sonax lube and clay. So I should clay the car first, then Iron X? I thought that was the logical move, but on Aquartz web they say that you Iron x first then clay.. lil confused but I am very excited to start this project. Too bad I don't have a polisher, cuz then I can post 50/50 shots on here! I will clean the car inside-out (interior was not properly cleaned for 2 yrs). Anyways- I will let you guys know how it goes!
