I was looking at the new Nano Skin 6" Pads and 3" Kit with hand pads. I would love to get away from constantly re-forming the clay. My concern is with Micro marring. I hate polishing becasue it is so time consuming, which is further compunded by the fact that I am not good at it! (my biggest strength is I know my weakness-LOL). I have been ablew to greatly reduce the need for polishing by having a very regimented wash process.

When I do clay I use alot of lube and use light pressure to remove initial contamination and fold and repeat in the same area with more lube and slightly more pressure. I find this keep marring, if any to an absolute minimum so that a 1 step with a finishing polish cleans up the paint nicely.

I am afraid that since the new nano skin moves so fast (DA) compared to my hand, and is more efficient at removing contaminants that the picked up contaminants will mar the surface of the paint to a greater extent than clay (my way). For pro's who have a 3 step polish all planned this may not be a big deal to them but to me it would cause me to stick with the clay.

Can someone tell me if I am accurate or wrong in my thinking. I have a few clay bars left but would like to get this if the marring is not an issue.

Thanks in advance for your advice as always.....

    Have a good day.

If you are concerned about the Nano Skin pads and your lack of da confidence you may want to go with the Nano Skin or Speedy Prep towel. The speed and application pressure is all in you hand as would be with hand claying. Depending on paint hardness there will be some marring but you mention a one step correction which could be enough to fix minor marring. Rumor has it a second towel is on the way with a finer surface producing less marring on softer paints. This may be more along the line of what you are looking for.

takes me 20 minutes to 30 minutes to clay an entire S550 using the speedt prep towel. Took me less than 10 to clay a civic hatchback, lol.
I'm pretty sure the speedy prep towel is just as fast.....

Do you think the results are as good as clay or is there a compromise? Does the speedy prep cause any increase in marring?

The results are just as good as clay. I never noticed any additional marring, but that may be because I've only used it on cars that needed to be polished in the first place, so I can't tell you for sure.

I've been using the autoscrub for a month or so now on a few different cars. Using it properly (TONS of lube, 1-speed setting, and no pressure on the polisher) it hasn't marred paint to my knowledge. I'm working on a black trailblazer right now and I didn't notice any extra marring.

But also know that clay can mar when using too much pressure and not enough lube

:graduation: Surface Prep Towel works fast and achieves professional results with the advanced polymerized rubber technology, the next generation of surface preparation. It quickly, easily and safely removes paint over-spray, rail dust, brake dust, industrial pollution and other bonded surface contaminants from the surface of automotive paint, glass, mouldings and plastic. Works with your favourite showroom prep or clay lubricant product, is easily cleaned by simply rinsing off the accumulated contaminants with water. If you drop the towel on the ground, no worries, just rinse the towel with water and you're ready to keep using it. Plus it does not require constant shaping and reshaping 12" x 12" Aggressive

Use only on clean, cool paint and out of direct sunlight.
    - Best operation temperature range is 50°F to 99°F.
    - Do not use on surfaces over 144°F otherwise the polymerized rubber surface will start to melt.
    - Avoid using soap and water as a lubricant.
    - Use only a showroom prep or clay lubricant to attain the best results.
    - Speedy Surface Prep Towel is not solvent resistant.

    Application
    - Thoroughly wash vehicle prior to application.
    - With your favourite showroom prep or clay lubricant, spray a generous amount onto the working surface and on the polymerized rubber surface of the towel.
    - Using light pressure, gently slide Speedy Surface prep Towel from side to side. When the Speedy Surface Prep Towel glides freely, the bonded surface contaminants have been removed.
    - Wipe off the residual lubricant with a separate microfiber towel. Rub your hand across the surface; it should be as smooth as glass.
    - Continue these steps until you have completed the entire vehicle.

    Care
After each use, simply rinse the towel in warm water and ring out...no soap required. Dry flat.
