So, I'm booking an 02 Avalanche shortly for a full correction and interior detail. These things have ACRES of black plastic trim.

Just wondering what y'all use for something that big. I'm thinking of not using black wow, but do want something halfway durable.

    Suggestions please!

Lexol Vinylex will last a pretty long time and make it pop. It's available nearly anywhere last I checked. 303 Aerospace protectant would work too.

There was actually a recall on some of this plastic, so if it's too far gone, it might be a lost cause. But I'd say 303 would be a good idea.

i was just about to list that as well.

Black Wow or 303 as long as you live in a hot dry place. 303 doesn't hold up well in the rain.

Meguiars Trim Detailer does a great job!! It holds up well in the rain.

Doest the chevy dealer sell some type of plastic treatment just for that reason. Its like a plastic trim paint/dressing or something. I cant recall the name right now but I'll let you know when I find out.

Thanks for the input so far guys. I have enough time to purchase something extra for it. I was even thinking about the Leatherique bumper dye if it's bad. But I don't own that either.

I just didn't want to use black wow because of the cost, and it can tend to look blotchy.

hmmm... my dad has a gallon of forever black. But it's the stuff for tires. Is it the same stuff for both applications? I would think so, but you never know...

I'll mention gatorback, but will have to figure out a total price for me applying it too...

You can prob. use the tire stuff on trim. I think Richy used the tire dressing on trim and said it worked well. He has a two part review in the review section so I would look at that.

I would say Megs Ultimate Protectant works well, 1z plastic and rubber protectant is pretty cheap and good durability as well.

The 1z stuff is a great idea too. I needed a new reason to order some more 1z stuff!

But, I'm thinkink I may just go to town with black wow...

Are you sure it is Black? I own a 2002 Avalanche and it is grey. I didn't think they offered black until later years.. I use 303.

I've had good luck with Black WOW using repeated coatings, the surface has to be absolutely, positively clean for best results. It's a PITA to work into cowlings with grooves or small, tight areas.

Back to Black - worked well to restore, lasted decent enough but frequently gets blotchy on horizontal surfaces after rain.

Black Again - just tried this out and it appeared to run after a rain.

PB's Trim Restorer, restores black, no buffing, longevity is unknown as I only tried it a week ago. A little goes a long way and it's super easy to apply. Works on all colors of plastic.

Meguiar's Accent Coating or Trim Restorer, convenient easy to use spray for honeycombed grills or tight spots. Starts to fade after a month or so of repeated washing.

I'm hearing Ultima Tire & Trim Guard Plus getting rave reviews by those that repor t rying everything.

Some wacky folks on Avalanche Forums are swearing by Future floor wax!

I haven't used it for years but I had good results with AutoGlym Trim Dressing. Goes on a little gooey but buffs out nice after you let it dry a bit. A little shiny for my tastes but IIRC it had pretty good longevity.

Here's a guy that tested tons of stuff:

Yes! The 1Z stuff is excellent. The only other dressing I've used on black plastic that lasts longer is Black Wow, which I've mostly abandoned now, because I hate working with it.

There is an excellent product made by Car System Canada called Finish Restorer. I have used this on faded external trim and it is an excellent product, best I have used.
I am not sure who distributes this in the USA?

Poorboys Trim Restorer gets my vote. I applied some to the bumpers on my van and , without wiping off the excess, immediately rolled it out into the pouring rain. Checked the next morning and very little ran at all. Awesome product.

Never worked on the platic of an avalanche but the honda element has good amount of platic and collinite 845 works great for that, not sure if the platics are similar?
