Has anyone used this bp? Thoughts on it? I was curious about it and looking for thoughts on it before I pull the trigger on one. Thanks in advance, Roger.
I had it on my Makita it was not bad but it is stiffer than my 3M Perfect it III. The bad thing is that it really wont conform to panels with anything stiffer than a Green Uber. With Orange and Yellow pads its like using a regular backing plate, which to me was a disappointment because its when compounding om a correction that you spend the most time with a vehicle. And for it to not conform to panels with stiffer pads was really a waste of cash to me. Sent from my HTC EVO using Tapatalk
I am not paying $70 for a backing plate. What about the gloss it one or the flexfoam one autogeek sells?
Well I am going to be recieving the Gloss it 3" from Aaron from Detail Addiction in a soon ill let you know how it compares to the 3M. He gave me a great deal on it and if it is good. I would suggest you get it from him since he had them for a way better price than Gloss it does. Also he can send it via flat rate small box so you will save quite a bit purchasing it through him. I will get back to you on the feel of it soon Sent from my HTC EVO using Tapatalk
The GI one is not bad. I'm getting rid of mine because I barely use my Makita. Ask Bobby (darkstar) about his GI backing plate. He has used his more than I have used mine. Check my thread.
I have a 5" GI backing plate and it's quite nice, because I have only used regular backing plates other then that but it's really soft, Bryan gave it to me since he likes his BP's a bit stiffer I believe his uses a UK 3M BP's. I can't complain since it's served me quite well. If I was buying a BP it would be the UK 3M one because a BP makes a big difference in how the power of the machine transfers into the pad and ultimately the paint, and a good one will last you a lifetime.
Slanguage -- I have had the 5" C/G Evolve Backing Plate on my rotary for almost a year and it works great. They have made the back of it smaller and smooth, so it's less apt to hurt anything if it gets too close to it, the Foam Backing plate is nice for my needs. I dont really care for too soft a backing plate, because that to me will be flexing, and using up some of the force I want to be turning the pad. I have never had any problems with it conforming to the panel, and honestly, dont know why this seems to be an issue with users. I can keep any backing plate/pad combination flat on any panel that has the same width as my pad. I also have that 3M red foam backing plate; bought it a couple years ago, and its ok, but I think mine is slightly out of round, so I dont really use it anymore. I bought it from this company in the UK, so there is no warranty I can probably use and shipping back and forth would not be worth it.. Also, the microfiber backing is very, very, grippy and makes it harder to remove Lake Country foam pads from it easily.. So for me, the C/G Evolve Backing Plate is great ! I might get the smaller 4" one too sometime. Dan F
I have one on my Flex PE 14-2 150 and it work well . I have no complaints. I Also have the Gloss -It and The 3M clone from Ben ( Rubbish Boy) that he had custom made a couple of years back. They all work well . It just comes down to What your willing to pay .
I have one for my makita and it works well, but I have troubles with conforming panels with stiffer pads.
Roger, for the money I really like it. It may not conform as well as a 3M BP but it kicks ass compared to the cheap ones that come with it and is much more of a joy to use. For a budget, which I was on when I bought it, I couldn't be happier with it. Pretty good quality too, doesn't feel like its going to fall apart. I think you'll be happy with it.
