I've read many reviews on Black Wow and don't doubt it's an awesome product... but I'm interested in CG trim gel for the fact that it's cheaper and comes in a bigger bottle. Can anyone compare the two for me that have used both??

I have used it on trim before and cannot say I was impressed with CG Trim Gel...

The deal breaker for me on purchasing Black Wow was that Ford Trim didn't c*ck-block it after 1 wash.

I think I read somewhere that CG trim gel got pwnt by Ford trim?

It's true that a tiny bit of Black Wow goes a LONG way.

On my ford trim black wow works alot better than cg trim gel. Also you use so little BW per application that the bottle should last a long time.

I'm under the assumption (from all the high praises) that Black WOW is pretty much the go-to product for reviving/restoring trim? I'm curious as well about its competitors that produce just as good results as Black WOW and possibly cheaper.

    Any thoughts?

I used a sample of black wow that i got from properautocare and it is amazing to say the least....but for those that use it as a go to..what are you using for protection on top of the black wow...does BW have any UV inhibitors or anything??

I've only recently heard about Black Wow; last 3 or 4 months. And before that I'd read good things about Poorboy's trim restorer, CG's and Black Again. Having Ford trim is the only reason I bought Black Wow. Otherwise, I probably would have just picked up a bottle of Black Again.

If you look at the pics of Tonya's detail on the Mini, you'll see that Black Again does a good job of restoring the look of Black Plastic trim...she'll just have to keep us updated (if she can) on its durability.

Dust if I were you I would get both. On that Avalanche I did there is no way on God's green earth that I would have attempted that with just Black Wow. If you only have very small areas to work on Black Wow is the ticket but if you have a lot of acreage to cover I wouldn't want to do it with Black Wow. As good as Black Wow is here are a few Cons:

    1. Don't for the love of everything good get it on paint or glass! To say it is a PITA to get off of those would be the understatement of the Century.

    2. If you have a large area to do it will take you forever. You use so little of Black Wow that if you have a lot to do you start to put more on the applicator so you don't have to work so hard and then you are wasting it. And at the price it costs that hurts.

    3. The Price. I know you don't use much but if you don't use it correctly then it will streak on you and you end up going back with a second application.

    4. Ease of use is a con for sure. You need to follow the directions to a tee pretty much to get good results.

Now on that Avalanche what I did was take a TW MF applicator (the rectangular one) and put a thin 2" line in the middle of the pad. Then I ran a thin bead of CGs Trim Gel around the outer edge. This made coverage a lot more even and a ton easier than just with Black Wow. I then went back and to sort of lock in the look I sprayed it down with MS Quick Details (which is just like Stoners Trim Shine). This is what it looked like:

Now I have used both of these a ton and if I had to pick one I would go with CGs Trim Gel because of price and ease of use. If I wanted to have the durability with it I would spray over it with Trim Shine and you are golden and still cheaper than Black Wow and dramatically easier to use.

Dangit... why does it have to be so hard to choose!!!! i have stoners trim shine and like using it.... not so much on the outside, cause wind will carry it away. I might have to buy both... but being in business you don't want to throw away money on a hunch, you wanna know for sure

I posted this in another thread and I think it belongs here also....sorry for the double post..but the info belongs here also.....

The Chevy Avalanches had a serious Cladding problem..the plastic lacked a UV inhibitor when mixed...and Chevy at first was fixing these with a product called Armidillo...it was not a permanant fix...any type trim dressing will fail in time....

    little info on the problem

    Cladding trouble

Soon after the release of the Chevy Avalanche customers began to notice cosmetic problems with the cladding on their vehicles. Over time exposure to heat and sunlight would cause a chalky faded appearance. It was especially noticeable on the cargo bed panels, and sailpanel windows where "Zebra Striping" would appear. Customer reaction to this problem resulted in General Motors agreeing to a one time treatment of a product called ArmorDillo. This product would temporarily restore the cladding for a period of about 6 months. After that it would wear off then need to be re-applied. Realizing this was not a permanent solution, GM, together with Gatorback Coatings, developed a coating that could be applied to the cladding to restore it to a like-new shine. This product was designed to etch into the plastic and bond a new layer of tinted acrylic over the faded plastic. Customers within the 3yr/36,000 original factory warranty could go to their dealership to have it restored under their original warranty under GM TSB:04-08-111-001C. With the exclusion of side body cladding on the 2007+ model years this has reduced the amount of cladding fade. General Motors has also identified the original source of the faded cladding. With that information they were able to reduce the cladding fade problem on the GM GMT900 platform.

Now a company came to the rescue to fix this issue..called gatorback....I know people who did this treatment and no issues after....

here is the company who makes the product...its a great UP sell to any one who encounters this problem on a detail of such vehicle....

Welcome to GatorBack: Home of Automotive Plastic Restoration Products

Now what happens with do ing trim dressings is later on you get the zebra stripe effect as it slowly deteriorates...and looks worse some times....

    Hope this helped....

Damn Sparkie, how'd I miss that review? I only remember that you're also testing Black Wow right now.

Ketil, I've only used Black Wow on a Boxster's rear bumpers (they're small), cowl and convertible top trim. I used a pea sized dropped and worked that in on one of the rear bumpers, then part of the other. Two more drops were used on the cowl and another drop for the convertible top trim. The pics I took are terrible and not even worth sharing.

    How are you applying it?

I applied it with a small sponge. But seemed to get streaks. Used very small drops. Got some on the pain, PITA to remove!
