Hi, I was wondering, when does mercedes started to use ceramic clear coat. I might have to polish a 2000 SLK soon. Thanks
Not sure of the exact year, but I believe it was recent like in the last couple of years, so the 2000 won't have it.
That's about right 2004/2005 but I have seen older Merc. have a hard clear coat as well not sure why but they felt just as hard as the new ceramic clear coat.
I belive they no longer use ceramiclear, my dads 08s550 dosent have it, they have a new paint that they are using, supposted to be even better
I was told differently. How sure about this are you? 1 way you can tell is that there will be a "C" in the paint code indicating it's Ceramic.
I thought it was Infinity that upgraded to the new clear coat, I didn't know that Merc. did as well :shead: hmmm...interesting
I will go check the paint code tom (assuming he takes the jag) but i remeber when we bough the s550 I was told that we had to request the cerami clear, they had some new paint technolgy that was better....but ill double check as soon as i can get my hands on the benz
I am pretty sure the scratch resistant clears started in 2002 but only on the CL's. Then on July 14, 2003, the W170's (SLK) and the R230's (SL) got the C in the paint code. Sept 1, 2003 marked when every vehicle made in Sindelfingen got the ceramiclear. I think that all of the Bremen got ceramiclear Dec 15, 2003. haha what can I say...I used to/ still detail a lot of Mercs.
