So I don't know if anybody ever wonders this or if its a really dumb question but how is it that the regular commercial car washes (tunnels) can have the nastiest aluminum, chrome, whatever type wheel go in and not have anyoe touch them and whatever they have spraying them cleans all the wheels in a matter of minutes. I have never seen a guy with brushes or anything going at wheels and yet they come out great. Anyways just wondering if anybody on here knew the secret.

That's because it's highly acidic and pretty much melts the brake dust away. Along with severely damaging some finishes on the wheels.

Car washes are terrible at cleaning wheels.

That's what i figured. Just wondering if anyone on here had first hand knowledge. I know i have seen some wheels stained from car washes so i assumed acidic chemicals were their main cleaner.

I shed tears when I see guys taking their cars into car washes.

Guy at my office takes his DB9 through a car wash I wouldnt drive my lawn mower through.

    Its insane.

if he can afford a DB9, why doesn't he hire somebody to wash it?
