So I can't seem to figure out if this is the clear coat coming off or if it's just a ton of dirt deposited in to the paint. My dad used some paste wax and it got a small amount of it off but I am not sure if again it's the clear coat coming off or may be claying it will work, feedback appreciated! Thanks!
I think it could possibly be some deposits in the clearcoat or paint even. Doesnt seem to have a clear coat.
Tough to tell from the picture. How old is this car? What is the make and model? What are you washing it with?
It's a 1992 Honda Accord, I got this car about a month ago and the previous owner obviously didn't take any care with the exterior. It's like this on the drivers door also. If you want I can take a better picture of it with, but might have to wait until tomorrow so I can get better lighting because it's getting overcast out where I am at.
Sorry for the late delay on getting better photos. It just finished raining and now got some sun in finally. Hope these help.
I haven't washed it yet so I don't know if it has happened after rinsing. I only had this car for a month and when I have the chance to wash it, there's rain in the forecast.
I actually did an old work van for a customer a couple days ago that typically sits for long periods as he only uses it for side work from his normal police job. I tend to see this on white vehicles that sit outside for periods of time untouched. If its the same thing that I dealt with (which I can't guarantee) it just seemed to be a build up of light oxidation and dirt. from far it looked like dirty paint, but close inspection showed it to be little dark dots all over. What i did was pre-spray a panel with a light mix of power clean and water then followed with my normal ONR wash but i washed each panel twice with ONR. This seemed to clean up the paint fine. I'm sure a polish would clean it up great (if this is what your dealing with) but my customer just wanted it cleaned, so no polish was asked to be done. and as socal brian brought up, the wash bucket was turning milky in my situation so this is probably what he was getting at. Brian you can confirm if this is also what you were thinking.
Well, if you haven't washed it yet then why don't you try that first. But remember the car is close to 20yrs old now and if the prior owner(s) neglected it and it sat outside in the strong sun alot then the clear is probably toast and what you see may be what Kyoshiro mentioned (within the paint itself).
Alright I'll wash it this weekend, I'm hoping it won't rain but you never know. I will keep you all informed and thanks for all the responses!
Oh man if you haven't washed it yet then you got to. Give it a very good wash if you can use a pressure washer for rinsing. You might be surprised if you give it a good wash. Then inspect it. If that is still there then you know it has to be oxidation or failing clear. But I highly doubt its clear coat failure..
Try claying it and polishing it. It's a 20 year old Honda man... if I ever see one of these on the road they all have CHUNKS of body missing because they are so rusted out around my area. Yours actually looks decent lol.
That's single stage white paint ... It seems to me that someone try to touch that up with spray can paint (hard to tell on a computer monitor). It might just be bad oxidation. My first and second cars were 1991 Accords. I dropped a H22A in my 2 door coupe back in the day. They are really easy to work on.
