Hey guys, I want to take advantage of DD BF discount that is currently going on right now. I know everybody has their own favorite products that they like to use but I'm looking to buy the product from Phil to take adv. of the discount #s :applause2:. I'm new when it comes to detailing so I'd need some inputs ASAP before I place my order.

    Exterior
    1) I have a PC 7424 but need some pads. It comes with a 6" pad plate so can I use the Uber 5.5" ($34.99) or do I need the 6.5" ($46.99) pads (my guess is the 6.5" but just want to double check).

    2) Need clay bars but what to get? I'm looking at Adam's http://www.detailersdomain.com/adamspolishes-claybargreyprofessionalgrade.aspx ($24.95) but there are Uber clay which is cheaper. The fine grade http://www.detailersdomain.com/uberblueclaybar-1.aspx and medium grade http://www.detailersdomain.com/uberblueclaybar.aspx ($21.95) (what's the different... pros/cons).

    3) Rim cleaners http://www.detailersdomain.com/sonax-fulleffect-wheelcleaner-3.aspx ($43.06)

    4) Kwazar Mercury Pro + 0.5 Liter Trigger Spray Bottle 3 Pack http://www.detailersdomain.com/kwazarmercuryprotriggerspraybottle3pack.aspx ($39.83)

    5) Adam's In & Out Spray 3 Pack http://www.detailersdomain.com/adamspolishes-inandoutspray-1.aspx ($39.95)

    6) I have P 21s wax that I have not try it yet :laughhard: but I heard a lot of good things on Lusso http://www.detailersdomain.com/lussooropremiumcarnaubawax.aspx ($39.95) and Collinite No. 915/476s. Which to get ?

    7) I definitely want to pick up some MF towels. If I go for a pack of 50 ($150) http://www.detailersdomain.com/uber-microfibertowels-classicmicrofibertowelbulk50.aspx it comes out to $3 each but that's A LOT of towels and I don't really want to spend a lot of money either. Do I still need/want to get the Uber Jumbo Waffle Weave Drying Towel Blue http://www.detailersdomain.com/drying.aspx ($17.95) if I buy A LOT of 16x16 MF towels?

    Interior
    8) Have Leatherique Rejuvenator Oil & Leatherique Prestine Clean but haven't try them yet :hmph:. I have leather seats and alcantra steering wheel so any other recommendations?

    Engine
    9) Beside Adam's In and Out spray anything you guys recommend?

I have waxes listed but no polishes so any recommendations? I will need a good wash mitts or something similar. What else am I missing? Please keep prices in mind on must get vs nice to have lol. I have midnight PST to get my order in so your :help: is greatly appreciated.

    TIA!

Thanks for a quick respond. Just a few clarification...

    2) Need clay bars but what to get? I'm looking at Adam's http://www.detailersdomain.com/adams...onalgrade.aspx ($24.95) but there are Uber clay which is cheaper. The fine grade http://www.detailersdomain.com/uberblueclaybar-1.aspx and medium grade http://www.detailersdomain.com/uberblueclaybar.aspx ($21.95) (what's the different... pros/cons).
medium will marr the paint but it'll get tough containments off, fine will get less tougher ones, imo get uber ones

Do I get the Uber fine/medium grade?

    6) I have P 21s wax that I have not try it yet :laughhard: but I heard a lot of good things on Lusso http://www.detailersdomain.com/lusso...rnaubawax.aspx ($39.95) and Collinite No. 915/476s. Which to get ?
collinite for unmatched durability, lusso oro wise, havent tried it but i believe its a nice wax. May i recommend breaking your wallet for some Swissvax =p

Which Swissvax do you recommend :)?

    Engine
    9) Beside Adam's In and Out spray anything you guys recommend?
some APC to clean, I personally use Rubber/Vinyl/Plastic care in the engine bay as opposed to spray.

Which/what APC products? Can you point me to the link for the products?

What is this Menzerna Powerlock and ONR? Do you have the links to these items?

I'm new to this forum format so I'm not sure how to response with the quote lol

  4. kyoshiro

    kyoshiro DB Forum Supporter

lol those links are wrongly done =p
Nonetheless, I suggest fine unless you find yourself having heavy containments, you can use fine without polishing, medium WILL require polishing afterwards
    --> http://www.detailersdomain.com/theuber-blue-clay-bar-kitwithoptimumnorinse.aspx (this kit imo)

as for SV wax, Which car is this going on and which color? and prob what kind of weather you get (like do you get snow + salt etc)

APC wise, I believe people have good luck with Optimum's APC http://www.detailersdomain.com/optimum-carcare-powercleanallpurposecleanerdegreaser.aspx
    I personally use 1z Blitz http://www.detailersdomain.com/1zeinszett-all-purposecleanerblitz-2.aspx
and Poorboys APC which Phil doesnt sell.

    ONR: http://www.detailersdomain.com/optimum-carcare-PolymerTechnologiesInc-norinse.aspx
    Menzerna Powerlock: http://www.detailersdomain.com/menzerna-powerlock-polymersealant.aspx

lol, I just bought mine too. Phil's sale made me bite the bullet, I also bit the bullet on AGHD, RBOE, Vic's Red, and now SV Concorso. Been on a LSP frenzy lately lol.

I think you may be missing a polish. Unless your paint is perfect after you clay the car, you will most likely want to use a polish (or 2 or 3) with your 7424 to get your paint perfect before you seal it.

The Menzerna Power Lock (MPL) is a sealant that goes on after your polish. In most cases it is used in place of your wax to protect your finish that you worked so hard to perfect to this point. Some like to add a wax on top of the sealant as well for personal preferences on looks, from what I have read.

ONR is Optimum No Rinse. I believe it is a wash solution that doesn't require you to rinse afterwards, meaning it dries clean after you wash by itself.

Perhaps Phil can chime in and give you some recommendations like he did for me, if you told him a bit more about your car (if this is for a particular car)

Out of the different MF towels that Phil carries, I like his Uber All-Purpose ones the best. I feel that they work very well on the widest variety of jobs. He sells this one in bulk as well as the others.

Thanks for the inputs guys. Additional information I want to add. My weekend car is an '05 Alpine White M3 and a real bad condition '96 DD metallic green Honda Accord that is park outside since I picked up the M3 :). I want to do my niece blue 325 BMW and my sister silver grey Benz.

The Optimum Power Clean All Purpose Cleaner Degreaser and ONR are both use differently is that right ? The description on the degreaser sounds like it's use for engine/wheels and the ONR sounds like car soap. Any recommendation on the polish?

  10. kyoshiro

    kyoshiro DB Forum Supporter

Yes 2 different products, ONR you can dilute it as clay lube ( cuz u will need a quick detailer or a weak onr solution for that ) and it can also be used as a rinseless car wash. APC can be used to strip LSP too!

So for your white M3, Swissvax Glacier is the one specifically for white paint, and Blau Weiss is specifically for BMW paint, ofcourse concorso will probably work best for everything =p
I'd say apply a sealant to your Honda Accord (or maybe some collinite) since it sits there. I would recommend Sealants on your neice and sister's cars because they would probably not get you to do it every once in a while and probably will care much of the paintwork (prob their least concern) so something durable.
polish.. menzera 106FF for final polish imo, works for the benz paint and bmw paint, BMW paint i dont know if they got ceramic in their clearcoat but Benz does. 106FF will do the job fine nonetheless.
I'd also get some Menzerna Super Intensive Polish for some deeper imperfections, Power Gloss i believe will not work that well with our Portercables, or will take a long time, probably better getting a rotary for those jobs.
Or you could try and grab the Menzerna kits and call it a day.

I believe those that ya got are good

I think the leatherique set requires some heat and time to get it to work well, and is something you could use just once a year. I would recommend picking up something else that you can use more often, I myself like the 1Z leather care from detailersdomain. Leather masters kit is also really good from what I have seen and is next on my list to purchase.

    lots of good suggestions here.

I do have to say one thing as many of you know we ship and get our porter cables without the stock pad. so if you pick up our base kit it does not come with a backing plate. however if you pick up our pc kit with pads it will come with a 5 inch backing plate and 5.5 inch pads.

    http://www.detailersdomain.com/theuberportercable7424xporbitalpolisherwith8uberpads.aspx

this kit should work out for compound/polishes/sealant
    http://www.detailersdomain.com/thecompletemenzerna16ozkit.aspx

as for wax if you have the p21s then use it up before you buy more.

you can use an apc like Adam's APC, P21S, Optimum for a engine cleaner.

but we all know that having a collection of Waxes and Sealants = win :D
its like collecting stamps, but it just takes more space and money BUT you can use it and well if you run out, you still have the jar.

After all the inputs from you guys this is what I'm planning to order:

    Exterior For Me
    1) PC Pads: 5 Pack: Uber Foam Pad 5.5 inch since I have both a 5" and 6" pad plates with my PC 7424 :) ($34.99).

    2) Clay Bar: The Uber "MEDIUM" Gray Clay Bar Kit http://www.detailersdomain.com/theuber-gray-clay-bar-kitwithoptimumnorinse-1.aspx although my '05 Alpine White M3 is not that bad... garaged all the time but my DD, niece 325 BMW, and my sister Benz could use some TLC. I'm sure I might end up doing some friends for a small fees to help pay for the materials lol. I'm going with the kit because it come with the bottle and ONR which I want to try them out ($42.31).

    3) Rim cleaners: still leaning on Sonax http://www.detailersdomain.com/sonax...cleaner-3.aspx ($43.06). Chris the FX wheel/tire cleaner is that from Mothers... is this the product Monroe Truck & Auto Accessories Online Webstore - Mothers FX Wheel & Tire Cleaner 24oz ??

    4) Adam's In & Out Spray 3 Pack http://www.detailersdomain.com/adams...utspray-1.aspx I heard a lot of good things about it so want to try this out ($39.95)

    5) MicroRestore Microfiber Detergent http://www.detailersdomain.com/micro-restoremicrofiberdetergent.aspx is it worth it to keep the MF last longer ($12.99)

    6) Taking you guys advice so I'm going to stick with the P 21s wax until I use it up.

    7) Might take Phil's suggestion and go for The Complete Menzerna 16 oz Kit http://www.detailersdomain.com/thecompletemenzerna16ozkit.aspx ($101.80)

    Interior for Me

    8) Have Leatherique Rejuvenator Oil & Leatherique Prestine Clean but from what I read it's good to use in the summer when it's HOT. Any other products beside this on colder weather... btw, I'm in CA :)?

    9) APC... Which is better? Adam's All Purpose Cleaner 1 gallon http://www.detailersdomain.com/adamspolishes-allpurposecleaner1gallon.aspx ($29.99) or P21s P21S Bodywork Conditioning Shampoo http://www.detailersdomain.com/p21s-bodyworkconditioningshampoo.aspx ($10.95)

    10) Probably going to pick up 2-3 of these Uber Jumbo Waffle Weave Drying Towel Blue http://www.detailersdomain.com/drying.aspx ($17.95)

    11) A pack of 50 ($150) http://www.detailersdomain.com/uber-...welbulk50.aspx and split these with couple other friends.

Recommendation on brush for rims, pads for tires dressing, and wash pads etc.

    Engine for Me
    10) Optimum Power Clean All Purpose Cleaner Degreaser http://www.detailersdomain.com/optimum-carcare-powercleanallpurposecleanerdegreaser.aspx ($35.99)

    Sonax gogogo!
P21s Bodywork conditioning shampoo isnt APC, their Total Auto Wash is i believe, but Adam's one is quite economical afaik.
Brush = Swissvax Wheel brush and maybe a fender brush
the circly applicators are good for tire dressing
Washpads... I use a sponge, uber sponge should beq uite niace
Microfiber restore = worth it to keep your mf tip top condition. 32oz = many washes already.
