This detail is for a great client of mine. I have been taking care of his M3 for about a year now. He has seen the positive effect of having a professionally installed coating and wanted to do the same for his wife's new vehicle. We discussed options and settle on one of our entry level coatings. He knew that with three children, this vehicle would see a great deal of use. My initial process, as always is to start with the wheels and make my way up. I had previously detailed this vehicle with a protective clean, and it still had the protection that I had added to the wheels. I was impressed at how well it was holding up for a spray on sealant. Wheel wells were cleaned with various brushes and P21S Total Auto Wash. We then foamed the entire vehicle with Nanolex Pre-Wash Concentrate. As the foam was allowed to dwell, I worked my way around with some Auto FInesse Citrus Power and a small brush to clean the emblems and intricate areas. We then performed a safe wash to remove the remaining dirt and road film. The polishing process may be a little unorthodox, but nonetheless, it was very effective and I was able to finish this vehicle out with coating in one day. The process started with the Rupes LHR15 and a Meguiars microfiber cutting disc. To this I primed it with a mixture of M205 and water. Making sure that all the fibers were wet, I then added a couple of dots of M205. M205 can be used to a great degree as a polishing compound. Many articles have been written on this, so I will not delve into this at this time. Google it and you will find videos and articles. I wasn't looking for maximum cutting ability here. I really just wanted enough to clean up light scratches and swirls. I made a couple of slow passes while the polish worked. I then left the polish on the panel and switched to a Meguiars microfiber finishing disc. This was as well was primed with the water/M205 mixture and one dime sized drop of fresh M205 in the middle. Then I would go over the polish that was remaining with the same amount of passes, watching to see when the polish started to disappear. This is where it gets weird, even if these two steps were not weird enough. I again switched pads to the Meguiars yellow foam polishing disc. This time, all I did was spritz the pad with the M205 and water mixture. I still have not pulled any polish off of the panel. This pass was the same as before, so in all I may have did 6-8 passes on a panel. That is usually the normal pass number to work a traditional polish out, but I did all of my correction and polishing with that many passes. Once everything was polished, I wiped the surface down with CarPro Eraser to prepare for the CQuartz UK coating application. Before I applied the coating, I went over the entire vehicle with CarPro Essence as a primer step, very light gloss pad. One the coating was applied, I left the vehicle to sit overnight and I returned the next day to finish the light interior detail, clean the windows and dress the tires. Here I am doing the final step with the foam pad Outside shots Interior shots
Wow! I've never seen M205 used to polish this way, but the results speak for themselves. What was the dilution ratio of the water/M205 mix that you used?
Exactly, this was using the M205 in crazy ways. Most of this can be found by reading alot of what Kevin Brown is doing. The ratios were close to his recommendations. HUMP
