    1989 300E W124 two step paint correction

This 1989 W124 had been repainted about a year before, the paint was much harder than the cyrallic black 2000 w202 in my other post so I didn’t realy have any problem with finicky paint conditions. The only sure sign that this car had been repainted was the size of orange peels on the paint that were quite larger than on original Mercedes-Benz paint job, this, I don’t really like as it doesn’t allow the sharpest possible reflections to be reflected off the paint, in my experience.
The owner told me that when the car was repainted, he asked the painter to apply a lot of layers of clear coat, hence the repainting process took a couple of months to finish.
The Merc was actually booked for a two step paint correction, not the full multi-step correction as budget didn’t allow for that. However, being an ocd I ended up doing more than mere two steps on it because of the terrible build up of oxidated layers on the paint (not to mention the swirls). I didn’t have much time to take quality pictures, but you can see the condition of the paint on the following series of shots I managed to take.
    These were my unsung heroes
    -DeWalt rotary
    -Scholl Concepts s17
    -Scholl Concepts s40
    -3M wool pad
    -Uber Yellow pads
    -LC “european” green pads
    -Collinite Insulator Wax as LSP

in a nutshell this was the treatment I did to the car
    - car was soaked and washed then clayed , arches and crevices were cleaned
    - deep defects (oxidation, swirls, rds) were cleaned up with a hit of s17 on 3M wool pad ,a few deeper RDS remained, but seriously made less apparent.
    - s17 on Uber Yellows were used to cleaned up the marrings left by the previous step
    - paint was then further refined with s40 on LC Green european polishing pad
    - lsp was Collinite iw 845 applied by hand

    here are the pics
    50-50 shots of the bonnet
Befores (take a look at the amount of oxidation and swirls marks)

Now the “after” side of the bonnet

Check out the contrast with the opposing (passenger) side

Note: 2 very deep RDS on the pics below were too deep to remove in two steps

Here are a few pics of the bonnect completed (still without any lsp)

Remember how the left/passenger side was full of haze and swirls? No more..

The same process were repeated to all of the panels, but im sorry , again, due to time constraints I couldn’t get pictures on every panel. I hope the pics of the bonnet would be enough to represent the work that was done to the whole car.

Now its time to go under the sun. Pics was taken with my phone, couldn’t get rid of the tails with this camera.

Proof that the “tails” on the sun’s reflections were not marring, in the pic below they continue even to the areas of the pics where there are no panels under it.

Is alright, i am a smoker as well but i won`t do it in front of my client ride, because people who don`t smoke are really sensitive to the cigarette smell. :)

sorry P1eT , shouldve taken more of those pics; i couldnt agree with u more, everytime I tried the new e classes i always feel that there is something missing on them compared to the w124. And the engine that they got, the straight six, man is so smooth, it revs like a four banger hot hatch engine, even though its 3.0 litres. too bad most of the newer ones are 4 cylinders.

What a difference in that picture of the hood, so flat and dull looking. You did a really good job on this Benz.
