Does anybody know any good products that would take out hard caked on brake dust. and a little bit of corrosion out of the wheels
P21S Gel and Sonax Xtreme Rim Cleaner Full Effect. Meguiar's Wheel Brightener is acidic and not safe for all wheels, but is dirt cheap and insanely effective.
I recently aquired some Brown Royal from Flashwax.com and it works great! Cut it @ 3:1 and you might need to use a brush and some agitation but it really does get the job done. I've used it on chrome and clear coated wheels with no problems what so ever.
I find that Aquartz Iron Cut is amazingly effective on stubborn deposits; most deeply embedded brake dust will come out with Iron Cut, but it is import to remove as much as possible prior to applying Iron Cut.
If the braked dust is "caked on" like it gets behind wheel spokes etc then the chances of a non-acid wheel cleaner getting them clean is slim. A non-acid based wheel cleaner is only going to be able to do so much regardless of how long it sits on there. Are the wheels factory clear coated, chrome or polished aluminum?
Corrosion? I would think a refinish is called for depending on the severity. You can always sand it down yourself and reapply a base/clear coat if it's not too bad. Are the wheels painted? For just caked on brake dust, Sonax or Iron Cut should serve you well.
