So, I tried to boil a MF last night as it seams to have a buildup that is making it streak when I try to wipe off QDs, also repels water. I filled up a large pot with distilled water and set it to boil.

Put the MF in for about 20 min. Almost no gunk was seen on top of the water, or not as much as I was expecting.

One thing is I know people say to drain water first so you do not get the stuff back on the MF but the towel floats to the surface so its already as the surface so would not the gunk already get back on the MF.

Are you suppose to weight it down someone so it does not float to the top but also not sit at the bottom so it does not melt. Let me know what I did worng or need to do to do it the proper way so I can do the last few of mine.

question for ya, is this microfiber so expensive that you just can't toss it out and get another one and not have to go through the headache of figuring out why its streaking....just a thought...

Its not just one it is 6 plush ones plus 2 WW. Just experimenting with one of my cheap ones. No I could buy all new ones, but I rather not as I am limited in funds being a student and not making money as I am starting classes Monday.

If it was just one I would toss it but its more then just one.

and you already did the whole vinager in the rinse cycle in the washing machine?? or soaking the towels in some APC for a hour or so then washing??

Yep, i added vinegar, I soaked them in APC, soaked in CG Microfiber wash. I boiled one last night and it helped. Just want to know if anything special needs to be done as the towel floats to top due to bubbles and just want to make sure you do not need to put a spoon or someon on top so that it more in the middle of the water so the gunk that get released does not get back onto the MF.

I am gong to clean the washer also this weekend using little cascade and vinigar for a rinsie. I could also use APC i guess.

Is it possible you've got a towel in this batch that had something oily on it, like tire dressing maybe?

I never use MF for anything for tire dressing. I am going to boil the rest of them as it does help. As I said I am going to do a soaking in some MS SGS (I need to get some this week as I just got back into raleigh) and then i will rinse them out and boil them.

Boiling does help as I said, I just want to make sure my method of boiling is correct. I want to know if I need to weigh down the MFs so they do not float were the gunk will be or if that is ok.

I do wash all my MFs at once and I think some wax got onto them and what not so boiling has helped a bit, I think a doubble boiling them and a cleaning in some APC or dawn as it will break down wax will do the trick. I just want to know do I or do i not worry about the MFs floating to the surface when boiling.

I boiled some MF's because of some lint problems and it turned out great. I did not weigh it down, just let it boil. I don't think you want the mf's to sit in one place touching the hot metal.

I guess you figured it out on not to mix your wax removal mf's with others. Good Luck

Yeah from now on there will be the following:

    1. clean washing machine with APC and vinegar as final rinse
    2. clean WW
    3. clean polish
    4. clean buffing
    5. cleaning really dirty MFs from engine and door jambs

Well I think I have corrected most of my issues and they are able to not repel water as much as before. I got my WW 100% back to normal but the fluffy MFs and regular shot nap ones are soaking water just not instantly. I think I am going to take advantage of Phil's sale and get few MFs as I got some extra money from selling back some textbooks I did not need anymore.

Just wondering, you think it would be wise to soak MFs used for waxing in APC such as MS SGS (or OPT Power Clean if its safer) for a hour to release the wax from buffing. Just dont want to deal with this hassel again. Or should soaking in CGs MF wash be good enough. Sorry for asking so many questions, I know I should have a big NOOB banner haha. But just trying to learn :) .

Pre-soaking your waxing mf's will definitely help.

Would you recommend APC or CG MF Wash as a pre-soak?
