Drove up to SC for these details. First up was the 99 black vette. I think about 40k miles, but as with all black vettes it was pretty bad. Products used: QEW Zaino Clay Z6 Strada 1000 polish 3M Extra cut Compound SIP Presta 1500 polish 3M Ultrafina polish Zaino ZPC polish Black Edge wool Yellow Edge wool Green Edge wool 3M blue polishing pad Hitachi Rotary Metabo Rotary PC Z7 carwash Foam Gun Pressure washer Excel detail medium sheepskin mitts Poorboys SnR wheel cleaner AM red hot APC Various brushes Many MFs and WWs Zaino Z5pro Z8 Zaino AIO This was a exterior only paint correction. I think you can see here how deep some of the defects where: I started out by giving the car a QEW wash, then I clayed with Zaino claybar and Z6 mixed 50/50 w/ distilled water for the lube. I started with: Yellow wool/3M ECC polish/Hitachi 1700 x2 Green wool/Presta 1500/Metabo 1500 3M blue foam/Ultrafina/Metabo 1500 This removed about 75-80% of the defects. So I stepped up to: Black wool/Strada 1000 polish/Hitachi 1800 x2 Green wool/SIP/Metabo 1500 3M blue foam/Ultrafina/Metabo 1500 This removed at least 85% of the defects. Some of the RIDS where very deep. The rear deck area and hood got the black wool combo. The rest of the car got the yellow wool combo. SIP vs Presta 1500: I tried SIP to see if it would get out more of the deeper defects then the Presta 1500 was. It seemed to be slightly better. I can get presta 1500 for under $35-40 a gallon shipped vs $50 for a quart of SIP. I talked to Ryan about the deeper defects and he says that sometimes you need the heat of a heavy cut foam pad to get the deeper defects 100% out on the hard vette clear. So I will put some yellow LC foam back in my pad container. The client was very happy with the car, he asked me if I was and I told him I am about 85% happy and wish I could of got it 100%. When I took the car out into the sun for the after polish washing, I did notice some holograms on the lower side panels. I do not know if I just got tired at the end of 10 hours of polishing or what. I cleaned that up with ZPC/white LC CCS pad/PC. Tires and wells where cleaned with AM Red Hot APC. Wheels got PB SnR wheel cleaner. Everything rinsed with pressure washer. I then applied 3x of Z5pro with ZFX and Z8. Tires got some Z-16. Here are some finals: Now for something on the "easy" side. Porsche Cayenne S in Prosecco Metallic Not sure of the year, but it had approx 50k miles. Exterior only as well. Sorry no before pics, but it was very dirty and had some tree sap or something on the hood and drivers door/window. I washed with Z7 in the foam lance, cleaned the wheels with P21S wheel cleaning gel and a few brushes. Tires and wells got cleaned with AM Red Hot APC and brushes. I clayed with Zaino clay and a 50/50 mix of Z6 and distilled water. Took a while on the areas that had the tree sap spots. I then gave the paint a light polish with: Zaino ZPC polish/White CCS pad/Metabo 1500 The paint still had alot of dirt in it as I would clean pads every other panel with the system 2k pad cleaner. I wiped off all of the ZPC residue with a spritz of Z6 on each panel. I applied 2 coats of ZFX'd Z5pro and 1 coat of Z2pro (no ZFX) on paint/glass. I followed with some Z8 on the paint/glass. Tires got Z-16 and wheels got ZAIO.
Thanks klumzypinoy! Thanks dsms! I wish I would of taken some before pics of the Cayenne, the paint was really :bla2: Thanks Sneek! Thank you Calgary! Thanks Divine! I like to :kick2: the SOB who designed the BSMs (body side moldings) on the vette. Not all C5s have them, but they are a PITA to polish around. Thanks Fminus! Thanks Wolf! Sparkie, Thanks for your kind words! :thumb:
thats great... doyou have any comments on the hardness of the clears or difficulty in polishing between the 2 types of cars (vette vs porsche) or was the 99 version non-ceramiclear? thanks...great job!!!!!!!!!!!
Very good turn around! Would this type of paint condition be a good candidate for wet sanding w/ some 3000 trizac? I've been learning wet sanding the last few weeks, and it seems like it would really help reduce such deep compounding.
Very nice detail :druling: :druling: both vehicles look great both have a great reflection :applause: well done. Thank you for sharing with us the write up was suporb as well :thumb:
Ryan, thanks for your kind thoughts and your help on the phone. Thanks Neil! The Cayenne had very light swirls, so I can't really judge this specific clear. In general Porsche clear is very much on the soft side while the vette clear is near the top of having the hardest clear out there. Non of the vettes have ceramiclear, they are just very hard. Thanks Tonya! Thank you Rick! Coming from a detailer with your skills, that means a lot to me. Thanks Shady! Yes I would of loved to use the trizac system, but to use an air powered sander would require a compressor with a very large tank. Think at least 80 gallons. I did just pickup some Megs unigrit paper, so I may give that a try on the next black vette. Thanks Carlos. I have a few more to post up when I get time. Of course one of those is another black vette.
