I thought it was going to be fairly easy to work through the minor water spots, scratches, and swirls. But this one turned into David vs Goliath! Here's what it looked like when I got it... Wash: P21S TAW (customer put a layer of Zaino, so I used this instead of Dawn) Clayed: CG Claybar Polish: Started with 3M Ultrafina SE on White CCS pad using the Flex 3401 For some reason the swirls were still there. Had to move up to PO106FF and White CCS on most of the car, but also used some Menzerna SIP with Orange CCS in some areas. Prepped the paint with Swissvax Cleaner Fluid Topped it with Zymol Vintage Here's the AFTERS, but these pics don't show the real results, thanks to the VOG. Does anyone know if the LS has a clearcoat or some kind of unusually hard paint? I know regular Toyotas/Lexus have soft, single stage blacks, but this one kicked my a$$.
Its not the hardest paint that I have ever worked on. The finish on your appears to have come out very nice!
Vehicle looks good, seems like Lexus Canada vs Lexus US is quite different becuase all the Lexus here have clear coat but I've read where some Lexus' in the US are single stage or mix of paint and clear coat (cant remember the real name of this mix...something tinted clear ). I've worked on a few Lexus here and they are nice to work with. Thank you for sharing vehicle looks great eace:
Its between the BEFORES and AFTERS. Thought I could just use some 3M Ultrafina on White CCS, but had to move up to 106FF and even SIP in some areas. Nica, I couldn't tell if this one had a clearcoat or not. I was just assuming it didn't, but I did notice that there was no orange peel, like most other Toyota blacks, especially on the trucks. But then again, it is the cream de la creme of all Toyotas. I was just surprised at how hard the paint was. Truly, not the hardest I've done, but frustrating when you're expecting soft paint. :shead:
tod071, just curious were your pads getting stained by the colour of the paint? That's usually a good indication that the vehicle is single stage. Yea, it's odd how vehicles your expecing to have a soft clear coat end up having a hard clear coat...seems inconsistent huh.
No paint transfer onto the pad. Well I guess I just have to get another customer to test the theory. :applause2:
Good point Nica, if there wasnt any staining of your pads it was not single stage...im really really surprised at this because i did a lexus hybrid the other day and the paint was so soft it was almost sticky....
Which hybrid? RX, GS, or LS? I think the LS has a different paint process and harder paint than normal Toyota/Lexus paint.
Really no transfer of colour to the pad...mmm..that's odd but if that's the case then it couldn't have been single stage...mm....that's odd.
Its Volcanic Fog from Kilauea volcano thats been erupting since the 1980s. This year is especially bad because of the wind conditions. Very hazy, cloudy, and bad for the sinuses :shakehead:
I heard that all of the LS460s get completely wetsanded by one person as part of the painting process. It's the only one out of Lexus' lineup that gets this treatment, hence no orange peel! The car looks amazing btw!!
