so after almost a year of owning this amazing little machine, and having a rough winter as well as a pretty bad drivers side impact (thanks to a friend of mine), i finally got the time away from the girlfriend, work, and side work, to give my GTIs exterior some much needed love. this will be the first time the car was corrected, not counting the "detail" it was given by the dealership previous to me taking delivery of it. my friend slanguage/roger had offered to help me get her back into acceptable condition after my woes and worries about having the car in the body shop for almost a month. i've had the car back for almost two months now, which gave the panels that went under surgery time to settle in and cure in a proper manner. the car was moderately swirled. there was only one spot which needed wetsanding (thanks to my girlfriend), and the whole hood was pretty banged up, which you will see in the pics. the hood was covered in holograms, which had been there since i took delivery of the car brand new back in august of last year. we agreed on a two step process, which was SIP/Orange and PO85RD/Blue to refine. SIP was spread at around 1100, worked at 1800, and then backed down to 1100-1200 to refine. this system works pretty well on VAG clears i have found. PO85RD was spread at 1100, worked at 1400-1500, then brought back down. i'd say we achieved at least 90-95% corrected. the hood was handled with PFW and M105 because of the heavier swirls, holograms, and some big and bird poo etching. it was refined with PO85RD as well. thanks again go out to my friend roger/slanguage for coming out to give me a hand, and also for making me a believer in the M105. MAN does that stuff work well. i could ALMOST refine it down to LSP ready with the PFW by playing with speeds on the rotary. i was very impressed. we also handled a couple trades, which was nice as i got some sweet goodies too! -WASH/WHEELS Adams Soap CG Grime Reaper CG Bug and Tar Remover Uber Wash Sponge DD Foam Gun 2BM w/ grit guards P21S TAW Various Wheel Brushes Uber Drying Towels Prep: Uber Blue Clay Adams Detail Spray Correction: Makitas Rubbish Boys Backing Plates (they rock BTW) Uber and CCS Orange and Blue Pads IPA 5050 1000W Halogens Brinkmanns SIP PO85RD Uber MFs PFW M105 Trim/Etc: Tropi-Care Tire Dressing 1Z Gummi Adams VRT Adams In and Out Uber Detailing Blocks LSP: CG Blitz Sealant SV Onyx Euro CCS app CG XXX on the roof (wanted to try it out) DD Uber No Names Gloss It Gloss Enhancer for final wipedown both roger and myself had cameras so i will be posting up two sets of pics. it seems i need a better camera, better photography skills, and def need a tripod, as half of my pics came out blurry as hell. sorry no direct sun pics, as it was about 730 when we finished. enjoy the show guys. thanks for my girlfriend:
thanks! but BMP is the best color. my B5 A4 was laser red so im kinda over the whole red car thing haha.
car looks good, I really love that body style, amazing the difference between models that VW has. One little thing though...why are your pictures all left to right??
thanks, but im not sure what you mean by pictures are left to right. thanks thank you haha thats the best picture of the whole thread.
looks awesome what a great detail, I am looking at getting a GTI and this has motivated me even more, I just can't decide whether to get the 2 or 4 door. I am also debating between the GTI and the Mazda 3. I want the GTI more just because I want something German hahaha.
