Well this is not really a new way but a easier way I think. So last time I used it I did what everyone said lightly lay the applicator on top and apply that. Well this was all good and what not but I ended up using A LOT more than needed, so I thought of other methods that would help me use less and would be easier than carrying around the pot of AB. I dont like carrying the pot around because you have to apply and work it in, then buff off. Where as with wax or sealant you can just apply and then remove so little more trouble trying to keep the pot of AB off the ground and stuff. Anyways back to the point of this post, I just got my hands on a large bore needle, minus the pointy end, and put some AB in there by taking the plunger out and taking a tongue depressor and putting a bit in there to see how it would work, and guess what it works great! Now I can just put a nice thin bead of AB on my applicator and go about my way and dont have to worry about putting it on the ground as no dirt can get into it.
I will have to give that a try. I just used some, but I only used what was stuck on the back of the lid. A little bit goes a long ways. I would have thought it would be too thick to dispense out of a syringe, but I guess not!
Where does one go about getting a syringe that would work? Last I saw one, it was part of a turkey fryer kit.
You can find them online for cheap. I got one from one of my labs, used it to apply oil to small gears. I try to find some local or online and let ya know. You cant use it with the needle part attached, or else it does not want to come out.
Just curious how many cc syringe was it that you used? I have a ton of 3cc syringes sitting around, but the outlet looks kind of small.
30cc, i just ordered a 60cc one online for $2 shipped 3cc does seem like it would be too small and would have to refill too many times.
I figured as much. I am going to check tomorrow to see what I have at my office. Are you planning on actually storing the AB in the syringe if you dont use it all during a detail?
Looking through ebay, feeding needles looked to be the best for something like this because of the larger opening. I have a few wit luer lock to refill ink and some other things.
We have alot of 5cc non luer locks. They use them to give children liq advil or tylenol. They might work pretty good.
You can try it out, thinking larger one may be better as 5cc may have to fill it back up often. I dont know if you can suck the AB out of the pot, I had to take the plunger out and put it in.
That would prob work better.... if someone had no clue what we were talking about this all would seem like a very strange thread, haha.
I'm confused - you'r using a syringe to put AB on the pad, thinking you putting less on than dabbing it into the pot 2-3 times? And you have an issue with what to do with the pot whilst applying the AB? In all my time using it - nigh on 2 years now - I've yet to give what I do with the pot, a second's thought. It stays in the other hand, with the microfiber resting over my arm and on another (part of the) panel. I've never needed to put it on the ground. As for getting the amount on the pad - really, there's no rocket science involved there. Simply wet the applicator, wring it out a bit, dab onto the surface of the paste, then apply to the paintwork. Don't mean to sound like I've having a pop at you, but too often I read how someone seems to want to overcomplicate what's a very straightforward process of cleaning a car/bike/etc. So, if the pot of paste is considered too much effort to hold in your left/right hand, whilst applying the LSP, what do you do with the syringe? Moreover, how do you control the amount of AB you put on the pad, more than simply dabbing into the pot? If you think you're pulling too much out, then scrape the pad against the edge, or make use of the extra by making it go further before dipping the pad back into the pot. Seriously, don't go reinventing the wheel - there's absolutely no need to.
Yes I know this method is crazy, and I have not actually used it in practice just was plying around as i had a syringe around after one of my labs. After about a day of detailing holding the pot in one hand and working AB into the paint can be a bit difficult sometimes, haha, so i always put the pot on the car over a MF and had a few close calls of it falling off the car . So just thought, hey if it is in a syringe it does not matter if i put it on the ground as if anything falls onto it it will not get into the AB and dont have to worry were I place it. Ok, so yes it is a crazy method, and no i have not tried it, and yes i will try it just for kicks. I dont really have a issue with getting a little bit of AB on my applicator, when i used it i just ended up using a whole lot more that I should have.
