Does anyone else wash their car like this during the cold winter months? I do. YouTube - How to properly wash your car in cold climates
i coin op pressure wash then ONR back in my garage and if its like not freezing yet, i just venture into my boiler room to turn on the water outside and do it like normal with ice cold water in ze bucket.
I used to do it that way all the time ( almost everyday ) until I found ONR. I sometime use ONR then CG ONE.
Great video! But tt is just a normal car wash, aside from the warm water in the buckets (which I do all the time anyways) so I don't see why I can't just stay home and wash my car. I like the point about using a wheel cleaner that can dwell/dry up on the wheel safely since cold can cause the cleaner to freeze up, but I've almost never had that happen to me. I almost always use a dilutable wheel cleaner and I'll just dilute it on the spot with warm water anyways. Plus the water in my wheel wash bucket is super hot so that helps prevent freezing as well.
A few years back I was washing up my car with the 2BM at one of the coin op wand washes and one of the workers came up to me and said "No Bucket Washing" I couldn't really understand. I mean did he really want me to use that brush.....and scratch the s#$t out of my car... that's all you see at those car washes is people using those brushes thinking they're washing their vehicle when really they're just making things worse on the paint.
That's messed up. My local wash bay doesn't mind bucket wash. Surprisingly a decent amount of people bucket wash too.
I usually just do a 2BM ONR wash. First I use a pressure sprayer filled with ONR at QD strength, and spray down each panel, and then follow that with the normal ONR process. If it is really bad, I will go to the coin operated pressure wash, and spray off as much of the crud as possible, then take it home to do an ONR wash.
pressure wash at the bay then ONR....Im wondering if I could pre soak with ONR then pressure wash to get more crud off...hmm
Marc and Jacob at Auto Lavish do some amazing work. They are on some of the other forums, and their work blows me away. Hey, when you live in cold weather like they do, you have to think of new ways to get it done.
Good idea, but if you want to pre-soak, maybe it's a better idea to fill a pump sprayer with a strong car wash shampoo. ONR doesn't clean much (if at all) if you don't agitate with wash mitt.
ONR for me also..... although it is -5 degrees Fahrenheit right now in Chicago....so you'd have to be absolutely crazy to do anything outside the house or work.
