As a long time lurker, I figured it's about time to contribute something. This is a work in progress due to the rainy weather, but hopefully will be complete by tonight. I'm not a pro so what might take some of you only hours, will take me days to avoid FUBARS. A little background: This is my DD, and unfortunately has not been garaged in the 24mos since it was built. Prior to my acquisition of it, the car sat outside at the dealership in the California desert for 13 months. With extremely hard water and poor cleaning techniques plus 120 degree summer heat, the paint has taken a severe beating. Although the car is fairly swirl free, the clear is extremely hazed, etched, marred, and sand blasted all over. I tried to capture the damage under the lights and sun, but bright glare seems to mask the effects more than shade. This is a good summeration of what the whole car looks like... And with the contrast bumped up to exaggerate some of the problems... I started filling the paint chips and a couple of small but deep scratches yesterday and woke early this morning to finish those and then complete the interior and then prep for correction. After a wash, wet sand of the blobs, and clay, I went with an orange pad and Menzerna IP. After 2 passes and not getting the desired results, I stepped it up to SIP and wool with one pass to remove the sanding marks and the other scratches from the neighborhod cats that have made my car their nightly gathering spot. After SIP and wool, hit the car with IP and the orange pad again, then two passes of 106FF on white, one pass of 85RD on blue, and 2 passes of 1Z Final Finish on black with the PC for that little extra depth. Once done. I'll apply 2 coats of Mystery (though a sealant would be more appropriate and applied next time). Obligatory 50/50... Depth beginning to come back... More to come later...
