Recently, the machine has been shifted into reverse gear when it comes to AutoGlym HD Wax. For some reason, there is now a general dislike of the wax, often being referred to as a "beater wax." There is also a general consensus that Rain-X is not a good product for treating windows. However, I am a firm believer that an OTC product can be just as good as a "professional" product sold in specialty stores. This is why I made a short video which shows how well these 2 very affordable and easily accessible products really work as well as how durable they can be.

Here is the video description in case some don't read descriptions on YouTube.:

I agree with your findings. Everyone got on board the AGHD train when we realized it was super cheap at Wally World. Now lately, everyone hates it.

    Thanks for the vid.

I love rain-x, it lasts ages on passenger and rear windshield and beads like nuts. When I foam up my car, it has no chance clinging onto the windows. The windshield requires a little more upkeep, understandable given I still use my wipers from time to time in urban situations. There are other more expensive alternatives, but for its price, especially since it can be had on discount it can't be beat.

There seem to be some differing opinions with hdwax. I used it this spring for about 5 months, and got some of the nicest initial beading. Durability was good enough to last a month, that is usually the longest I go before putting on a new layer. The biggest issue was application, it was really hard to spread out to get that thin layer. I could tell I was not getting even coverage so I could only go back to the pot and add some more. The end result is a thicker application, a pad that gets gummed up despite being constantly wetted that required a lot of cleaning. Fortunately removal was a breeze. I have a friend who used it and has none of these issues though, perhaps I got a bad batch. Perhaps next spring I'll try out a different applicator, but why should I have to? Clearly AG deemed this the best for their wax right?

Nice video man what snow foam are you using? And I still really like AG HD and use it :thumb: I have 3 pots in my fridge (2 are mine) right now and have applied 2 coats to my ride and still have 95% of the first pot left a little really goes a long way and it latest me for 3 months and was still beading and sheeting before I stripped it to try something new. this is how I apply it.

I fill an extra bucket or with 1 gallon of hot water to keep my HD applicator pad moist to apply it thinly. I randomly came up with this idea last minute and it worked out great AG HD goes on very easily. I then remove it after 1 hour so that it bonds well to the clear. Two pics after I had applied it

I have yet to try rainx since I use Carpro Reload on my glass.

In this particular video, I'm just using a "weak" dilution of my standard "cocktail." Normally 1oz DP Extreme Foam, 1oz AG Shampoo and 10oz water. For this video, I used 20oz water.

    That's a great idea/technique, mind if I steal it? :p

Nice pics, if you do try Rain-X, try it out on a side window first. It's where it works best. With wipers, you risk getting some streaking.

Cool snowfoam concoction I use 2 oz of Maxisuds II to 1 liter of softwater and I get shaving creme like foam:) I am going to cut mi dilution to 1oz since the GT now ha Wolfs Bodywrap on it and I dont want it to interfere with the nano structure. As for using my wipers I never use them LOL, even in heavy rain Carpro Reload is simply amazing the drops just jet off the glass even at low speeds, in a stand still the glass is clear because it slides down really quickly.

AG Hi Def FTW! If you don't like it, it's user error.

Beater is a term I use affectiately, because my vehicles (audi, lincoln) are daily driven beaters not queens, I have no use for a wax that looks good but blows off in the wind if you know what I mean. I have started using Adams glass sealent, I think it lasts longer, but twice the price of rainex it does not last twice as long.

LOL! In no way are your cars beaters. They are simply Daily Drivers. A "beater" is a POS car that you have no care for and would gladly send to the scrapper any day of the week(ex.: my old 2001 Chevrolet Cacalier). Hence why I dislike the term "beater wax" for a great* wax such as this. :)

*Great meaning looks very good, lasts forever and is very cost effective.

6 months in and still lasting. I wonder how long it would go if I left it there and didn't completely degrease the car for a detail coming in the next couple weeks...:D
