Well I am in the market for a 05-08 S4 Avant... style, practicality and performance. Anyone here have any experience with them? What to look for, what to avoid? There are not many on the West Coast, and if you find one the market price is far higher then anywhere else, so im looking to possibly ship one from back east. Im aware of the road salt issue..... but besides that.

    please discuss.

Karl not many out there in general.

Issues, coil packs go on these things.
    Eats gas
    Carbon build up
    Expensive to maintain
Make sure you get a warranty.

I believe most of the issues come up after 45k miles.
    I had a 04 S4...

that is what I am reading, what kind of issues? what if I just got a standard avant 2.0t? any major issues? I read about the coilpacks, is that on both 2.0t and the V8?

Expensive to maintain? are you referring to repairs or preventative maintenance?

Yeah, they are rare in good condition, that is a fact.

Theres a recall for most of Audi's coils, so you're cover on that.

It eats gas because its a V8?! but I never own one

I rarely see 4.2 v8 S4 with carbon build up...but it can happen if its a FSI or preivous owner didn't take very good care of it

you better have warranty, thats all I can!!! unless you're rich and stupid!

I seen many V8 S4 staying alive over 100k depending on its service record.

Is this going to replace that STI?

pick up a 2.0T avant and you can mod it and maintaining it would be much cheaper.

I got 11 - 16 mpg on my b6 s4 back in the day LOL

LOL..... 11-16, my suburban gets better.

Yeah, I'm starting to think that the 2.0 is the way to go, the STI is being sold/is sold im bored of it, and need something new to play with, and I have always loved Audi's wagons.

As for the Warranty, I'm either getting a CPO, or one from Car max, the warranties are pretty legit.

What is the issue with the rough Idling? I have test driven several FSI, and some smooth out, and some keep rattling away like its an old TDI.

2.0T are famous for crankcase ventilation vavle, thats what gives you that rough idle most of the time. If you see oil surrounding the oil cap, thats a sign that is bad...no biggie, the vavle is right on top of the engine :)

You can drop an Allroad very easily. You can actually start tucking tire. I've seen it done.
