Hey guys, I been using CGs leather PH cleaner, and Pinnacle's leather cleaner as well for cleaning leather seats and then applying a conditioner afterwards. NOW my question is can we also steam leather seats? I know the temperatures can reach 212 degrees! Which is why i am curious if it is safe to use the steam cleaner i have? It is normally used for clothing but i tried it out on STI seats and it worked awesome. BUT i have no idea how it will work with leather. Anyone here do this? So when i steam do i wipe with a mf towel right away and then condition?
Oooh..Oooh I do!!! I DO!!!! Man steaming leather seats is the best way to have them completely clean if you ask me. I've tried many, many products to clean leather and none of them (in my opinion) compares to a good steaming on leather. The name of the steamer I have is the Vapor Chief steam cleaner :thumb:
I know you can wrap a mf around the head, but it still scares me to try it. I gotta grow some balls and give her a go.
Takumi587 what's your take on that steamer? Reason I ask my wife wants me to buy her a steamer for the clothes. I've seen a few but don't know what to get
Lol it works great on clothes... but I am kind of nervous to try it on my leather seats haha.:catfight:
I have one of the Shark steamers from Lowes, I used it to clean the leather in my 94 Lincoln and it came out looking great. As the leather is still warm I applied a leather conditioner.
Would one of you who has tried this technique mind sharing a little how-to knowledge? I've got one of those clothes steamers, and would love to try it out on a car.
Try these on fer size fellers: professional car detailing training, Kleen Car|professional detailing training|equipment http://gobestimpression.com/videos-2008-3.htm Kevin put together some great steamer how-to's here!
Thx for this. Helped me figure out how to steam my own leather seats. And i feel like my TObi won't damage it at all.
We have the VX5000. We use it in the house and I use it in cars. I think I've used it 3 or 4 times now as we just got the machine not that long ago. I was nervouse at first so of course I tried it on our own stuff first with no ill effects. I've used it on leather seats and it is terrific. In my opinion it gets the seats much cleaner than using woolite/water. I also have Lexol but I haven't done a comparison. To put it another way, I was working on a Volvo with very light coloured leather seats which were quite dirty. I used my woolite/water solution and worked very hard on them until I couldn't get any more dirt off. I then used our VX5000 and in just a few passes got quite a bit more dirt off. I've also used it on upolstery, plastic panels and seat belts and it worked very well in both cases. I use the triangular shaped brush head with a terry towel wrapped around the head so the steam is not going directly on the leather or whatever, as suggested by the company selling these machines. The VX5000 has 3 levels of steam and usually I just use the lowest level of steam as a precaution. It has other uses too with cars but mostly I've used it in interiors. Sorry, I don't have any pictures of the steamer in use. I will at some point but my season has pretty much wound down for this year. Cheers, G
I've been using a steam vapor cleaner for years now......back when most people figured I was a bit weird for using one as they had no idea what it was but now everyone seems to want to try it out. They are a great help and the uses are pretty much endless after you get over the "shock" of using hot steam on what seems like delicate items such as leather, fabrics and headliners. Basically you get what you pay for in a steamer so don't skimp if you're seeking to use one in a professional detailing business. Weekend warriors can get away with lesser models but pros look to spend at least $600. Anthony
okay well i could not wate, so i busted out my Steamer that i only used once in teh last 4 months of ownership... my test was my Leather Compuert Chair, whihc has not been looked after in 10 years... yes 10 years... now it looks brand new, the leather was all limpy and loose and is all tight and matte supple finish...
well ill post pics of my interior detail on the 29th or 30th... when i actually do my car. Waiting for some products to come in the mail I am low on.
well i PM'd Phil at Detailersdomain, he said its fine to use... but becarefull not to get the leather toooo hot and it might remove some on the Dye with it...
