Just wondering, is it possible to use 4" pads with a FLEX XC3401 VRG? Have any of you tried this? How did you manage it?

There is or was only one way to to do this. That would be with the edge adapter . But i'm not sure its even available anymore. Most folk use a PC for the hard to reach areas.

AG still sells an edge adapter.

I use a 3" or 4" pad without an adapter. Just center it on the backing plate. Have been doing it for years.

so you guys are saying with an adaptor you can use 4" pads with a 3-4" backing plate on a flex?

that has been the sole reason i havent picked up one of these machines

can someone post a pic of the flex set up with the adaptor and 4" pad?

do you have to use the edge pads? or can you use hook and loop LC pads?

You can only use the edge pads with this adapter. AG has had it on back order for sometime now . So I assume its no longer being made or they are re-designing it.

imo, the flex is somewhat violent compared to the pc, griots ro and the rotary. I rarely even use mine anymore due to limited pad size selection and it "forced rotation".

The edge pads have a plate in the middle of the pads, that make it virtually impossible for the adapter to reach your paint.

So true I have never had an issue with the edge pad adapters touching .

Yeah, I read that. I am just looking into different options as I just got my Flex. I may or may not pick it up, as I can easily change to smaller pads with my PC.

More than likely what I will end up doing.

Me too. I usually keep a 3.75-in BP on it unless I switch to a 5-in if I use paint cleaner. I did not like the flex with paint cleaners...seems like overkill.

I use anything from a 5" to a 6.5" pad on my 3401. I was fortunate to get one of the "just" over 5" BPs when these babies first hit the market and they had a couple of re-designs of the BP on them.

Is there any adaptor out there that can connect the edge adaptor with standard book and loop backing plate?
