Anyone else use Brown Royal Wheel Cleaner?

    Emile Welcome to Detailing

    Hi,

I don't know who has heard about this product but this whole summer I've been using Brown Royal Wheel Cleaner (from Flash Wax) and it has been working great. At full strength, I have been able to clean up the wheel barrels of any car I wash/clean.

My question is, is this stuff safe for my aluminum-alloy wheels? The manufacturer's claim is that it's a non-acid wheel cleaner but that doesn't mean it's not high in alkaline. For regular maintenance, I use it diluted 3:1 (3 water, 1 cleaner) but I'm not so sure this is safe in the long run. I believe polished aluminum and chrome wheels need to have it diluted 4:1. I don't mind using it once in a while on a family member's vehicle but I have been using it on my Subaru WRX and my G35 Coupe on a weekly basis. The reason why I question its safety is because this stuff smells really weird and kind of gross and always makes me cough even at the 3:1 dilution ratio. And I know to stay back when spraying wheel cleaner but it still manages to make me cough. Finally, the stuff is very runny as it's quick to break down even the toughest brake dust inside the wheels but if I don't pressure-wash it off, it can leave some brown stains/residue inside the wheel barrel that a regular hose will not remove.

Oh, and to add, the stuff is safe on paint and doesn't irritate my skin at all. It's just the smell and the fumes, and how powerful this stuff is that makes me concerned. It's the best wheel cleaner I've ever tried, but I don't trust it.

Anybody have any experience with this product that is willing to share?

    Thanks,
    Emile
