Anyone apply DG 501 over 601?

    Hi everyone,

    First question on process post.

So now that I have my car and my Duragloss products, I'm getting ready to wash with Dawn, clay and then begin the DG process... I have read the entire DG thread here and didn't notice anyone doing or recommending applying DG601 PBA as a base coat and then applying DG 501 over top. Here is a link I found using Google search.... Detailing Steps

It seems that applying 601 PBA first will "increase the durability and gloss; it loosens up old wax and speeds up the curing time for your sealant or AIO. "

Also am confused on the curing times as this recommendation states very little time between coats.

My plan is to do 1). Apply 601 PBA first, then 505...wait and then buff off.
There should be no need to reapply 505 as this is a new car, right?

2). Then apply 601 PBA again and then 105 TP....wait and then buff off. Would it be necessary to repeat and if so how long 4 or 12 hours? The car will be in the garage for a few days so I want to get some multi coats on.

3). After applying multiple coats of 105, wait 12 hours before applying DG951.

It seems that using 601 PBA as base coat really helps with the durability and gloss. I have also seen other sites that say that it helps with salty / humid air - we have lots of salt and humidity here.

I have no problem applying multiple coats as I have used Zaino for the past 6 years. Went with DG with Ken's recommendation based on my car being white (Starfire Pearl).

    Thoughts?

    Thanks, Sean

501 is a cleaner so it will take off any layers that 601 is laying down

even though duragloss is similar to zaino there really isnt a need to follow the zaino regimen (which i think is overkill on zaino)

    Wash
    clay
501 to clean the car (even if its new it still has embedded contaminants)
    601
105x2 (to make sure coverage is there)
951 (whenever really some people even spray 951 to remove 105)

Perfect. If your car is white this combo will make you cry. It just looks awesome. After 501, apply a thin coat of 601 (don't remove ) and then a coat of 105. I seldom leave any time between any of the coats as if I'm doing a clients car, I rarely have time to wait or come back the next day to apply the next coat.

I can't find 601 locally ... I have everything else for the white Pathfinder I'll be doing soon.

I did the 601+105 combo a few weeks ago. My car doesn't bead water though... It looks like theres a thin sheet of water.

However, after I drive in the rain and park in the garage. The car dries up and its spanking clean again...

Applied some 951 last week, rained today and still beading is crappy...

601 is an amazing product and does not get the respect it deserves. It will reduce the cure time down to nothing and increases the durability of the sealant under which it is applied. 501 is a cleaner but is also a sealant as well; it was developed for marine applications so obviously it has to spend its time submersed in water. I generally use it for its cleaning ability. My recommendation is similar to Ken's but slightly different:
    501 to clean
    601
    105
601 (immediately after if you wish)
    105
    Top with AW periodically.
The reason you repeat the 601/106 and not just top the 105 onto itself is that it will give the total system better adhesion to the paint and better protection. This is NOT my opinion but rather one of the brothers at Brothers Research who are the makers of Duragloss. This is what he recommends. I would suggest you look at replacing 105 with 111..the more I use it, the better I like it.

Good point Richy. I too forget about 111 and it looks great over 105. So should we say.......

    501, 601, 105, 601, 111?

Or just forgo the 105 completely and just use 111 twice.

Richy agree 100%. I use the same system combo you described with amazing results.

Thanks everyone for your input...just to clarify Richy your point on 601/105 or 111.

After applying 601/105, buff off and then repeat? or skip the buff off? Is there any benefit of repeating this mutliple times, if so how long is the cure time 12 hours? After final buff off, how long before applying AW? 12 hours?

I went with DG based on Ken's recommendation, I didn't buy 111 but will next time.

I also purchased Werkstat Acrylic Jett Tigger again on Ken's recommendation because it is stupid easy/quick and has long durability. I would like to do the DG process 3 times a year and use AJT in between.

Sounds good...get him to send you a sample of AW (aquawax) too. It's great after a wash or even as a drying aid. It was originally designed to be put on a soaking wet vehicle...it's very strong stuff.
